KERFOOT, Jessie Elizabeth
September 10, 1912 - July 28, 2011

Jessie Elizabeth Kerfoot of Drumheller, formerly Cochrane, Alberta, beloved wife of the late Archibald Douglas Kerfoot, died at the Drumheller Hospital on July 28, 2011. Jessie was born on September 10, 1912 at a Scottish nursing home in Calgary, AB. She was raised on the family farm at Beddington (now Balzac), Alberta. She attended school at St. Hilda’s School for Girls in Calgary as a boarder for ten years.  Jessie went to work for Anita and Archie Kerfoot on their Virginia Ranch in Grand Valley, west and north of Cochrane in 1930. Jessie loved her 28 years working on the Ranch, especially when she was working cattle and riding in the Wildcat Hills. Archie, Anita and Jessie moved to a new home on Retreat Road, Cochrane in 1958 after Archie retired from ranching. Anita died in 1959. Jessie married Archie Kerfoot in 1960. Jessie moved to West Valley, Cochrane in 1983 after Archie died in 1981. Jessie was also predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Annie May Perry (nee Gibson), and her brother, Lionel Hallifax. She is survived by her sister-in-law Elizabeth (Dulcie) Perry of Calgary, Alberta; her nephew Graham (Teddi) Perry of Hanley, Saskatchewan; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Jessie is also survived by two special friends, Kent and Janice Walker of Drumheller, AB. Jessie spent many happy times at the Walkers’ Pope Lease Pines Bed and Breakfast in her later years. She was able to live in a little home on their property for the last six years with her caregiver, Elvie Taguiwalo, who took very good care of her. Jessie was an excellent seamstress and many individuals and organizations benefitted from this talent. She volunteered at the IODE (International Order of the Daughters of the Empire), Rupert Brook Chapter store in Calgary for several years. She then volunteered at the Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane. Jessie was keenly interested in the state of agriculture, history, politics, gardening and the environment. She was compassionate and willing to help those in need. Her generosity and quick sense of humour will be remembered by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Drumheller Area Health Foundation, 351 - 9 Street N. W., Drumheller, AB T0J 0Y1. Mark them for “Continuing Care”. A Memorial Service was held on Friday, August 5, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, 1407 – 7th Ave. NW, Calgary, 403-283-3035, with Reverend Grant Rodgers officiating.
