BURGEMEISTER, Jeannette Bernadette (nee Asquin)

Jeannette Bernadette Burgemeister passed away in Chilliwack on July 3, 2011 at the age of 87, a warm summer evening with the perfume of roses and honeysuckle in the air, comforted and loved by her family, nurses and friends. ‘Jan’ was raised in the Drumheller, Alberta area and before finishing high school, completed emergency war training and entered the military serving as a private. In the army, Jeannette served in various positions including messenger. She was a loyal legion member and was awarded a Good Conduct Badge in 1944. After the War, she graduated from Hollingshead Business School and worked primarily in the oil industry.  Jan and her husband owned the Pointa Vista Café and Repair Shop since 1963 and she still helped do the books till the mid 1990’s for her son, Wes.  She loved bowling, crib, crossword, crocheting, gardening and made the best pies.  Highlights of her travels were Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia and Alaska. Jan will be remembered by her two sons Robert Samuel (Taimee) & Wesley Dean (Carly Augustine), grandchildren Lee, Jimmy, Auzsha, Elisha & Krisjan, great-grandchildren Vance, Raine and Judaine, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Yvonne Spread of Edmonton, Alberta and brother Joe of Drumheller, Alberta. She was predeceased by her husband Sam of 53 years (10/12/2005). Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, August 2nd 2011 1-3:00 p.m. at the Chilliwack Fish & Game Clubhouse, 48685 Chilliwack Lake Road.
