HANSON,Thomas
May 6, 1921 - July 12, 2011

Tom was born in Olds, AB, the oldest of four sons, to Oscar and Vera Hanson. He attended Normal School and then served in the Air Force as a wireless navigator. He met Joan in Summerside, PEI, where they were both stationed, and they were married in January 1945 in Calgary, AB. After time at U of A , Tom and Joan moved to the Drumheller Valley. He taught in Wayne, Midland and finally Greentree School in Drumheller. He joked that it was time to retire, when he realized that he was teaching 3rd generation students. He took great pride in his yard and garden, especially his tomatoes and his beautiful roses. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was involved in many sports: baseball (pitcher and 1st base), hockey, Little League and Golfing. Tom loved hearing of the exploits of his family and took part in many of them. Trips to BC, fishing, camping, and the farm kept him quite busy. He enjoyed helping for harvest, but always had his gun with him, in case a pheasant wandered by. On his 73rd birthday, he was very proud to “pin” his grandson’s wings on at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Tom and Joan took two long trips after his retirement, one driving across Canada and the other to Australia and New Zealand. They took many golfing holidays together. Throughout his teaching years, he was very active in the ATA, was a member of Jaycees and was very proud to be a Jaycee Senator. In later years, he served on the Citizens Appeal Panel in Drumheller. Tom is survived by Sandra (Glen) Keiver, Three Hills, AB, Colin (Jennifer) Keiver, Belleville, Ontario, Lisa (Colin) Sharp, Lacombe, AB, Andrew (Deanna) Keiver, Three Hills AB, Mitch (Marc) Keiver, Washington DC, Rick (Marilyn)Hanson, Midway, BC, along with their two sons Matthew and Ryan, Krista (Jason) Colford, Lacombe, AB , Tom (Becky) Hanson, Surrey, BC. Tom was predeceased by his loving wife Joan Hanson, and his parents Oscar and Vera Hanson, brothers Bruce and Art.
