It is with sadness, yet with the joy and respect deserving of a good life, well lived, that we share this news with you.  Margaret Thora Rasmussen died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Drumheller on Wednesday June 22, 2011. Margaret was born in Innisfail, Alberta on January 9, 1924 to Thomas and Disa Sveinson, the second of 6 children. The family farmed in Markerville and Margaret’s undeterrable spirit and drive was formed at an early age when her father passed away when Margaret was 7 years old. Margaret was educated in Markerville and Dickson High School after which she attended Calgary Normal School and received her teaching certificate. Margaret taught school in the Markerville area until her husband to be, Hertel, returned from service in WW II. They married in 1947 and settled in Dalum where they farmed for 45 years, retiring to Drumheller in 1995. Margaret was a beloved teacher and active member of community organizations in both Dalum and Drumheller. Margaret will be lovingly remembered for her kindness and willingness to take on the tasks of bringing happiness to her family, her friends and her community. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Hertel in 1998. She is survived by her four children Gerald (Maryann) of Dalum, Howard (Carrolle) of Lethbridge, Douglas (Margaret) of Calgary and Debra Lee of Calgary, six grandchildren Jason, Jeffrey and Jillian of Drumheller, Glen of Mission B.C. Ashley of Lethbridge and Melissa of Calgary and 9 Great Grand Children. Margaret is predeceased by her brothers Cecil, Ralph and Norman Sveinson, sisters Agnes Bardenhagen and Shirley Dent.  A Funeral Service was held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dalum on Saturday June 25, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, The Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
