Passion Play Golf Tournament surpasses expectations

The Passion Play players will be even louder and prouder on stage this year, and the annual golf tournament is helping to make that happen.

The annual tournament went on June 23. It enjoyed a healthy number of golfers taking to the pristine Dinosaur Trail Golf and Country Club Course and then enjoying a dinner and auction at the newly completed banquet facility. The entire event netted in the area of $20,000. These funds are to be directed towards the new sound system at the Passion Play.
“In talking to one of the actors, the sound system is wonderful,” said Bryce Nimmo, who was one of the organizers of the tournament.
Nimmo adds they are appreciative to Encana, which was a platinum supporter, and Canalta, which was a gold supporter. He said this year they had more hole sponsors than in the previous season, and “Beat Uncle Zeke” was a great hit.
He said the live and silent auction shattered their expectations by raising $6,600.
“The silent auction buyers and the silent and live auction sponsors were very good to us,” said Nimmo. “We budgeted for $6,000 and I am an optimist, so when we go over, it is wonderful.”
The Passion Play opens this season on July 15. This year it will feature a newly renovated set and a brand new script. Supplementing and enhancing these changes is the new sound system. This will offer three-dimensional dynamic sound. While the Passion Play in previous years relied on the amazing acoustics of the natural amphitheatre, at times actors have had to over-project to be heard. With the new sound system, not only will every voice be heard but also the sound will travel with the actor through a series of speakers placed throughout the site. A new score has also been written to take advantage of the technology.
The buzz for this year’s Passion Play has been building, and Nimmo says ticket sales are going well, surpassing last season’s rate.
