Alberta Environment warns of high river levels for Red Deer River

No major flooding is expected as Alberta Environment gave a streamflow adivsory for the Red Deer River upstream of Dickson Dam and a flood watch warning for the Little Red Deer River on Friday morning.

Since Wednesday morning, 60 to 80 milimetres of percipitation has fallen in an area along the eastern slopes from Calgary to Pincher Creek, Alberta Environment said in a release on Friday. They are expecting an additional 20 to 30 milimetres to fall by Saturday.

A high streamflow adivsory has been made for the Red Deer River upstream of Dickson Dam, which means stream levels are expected to rise rapidly and no major flooding is expected. Minor flooding of low-lying areas is possible. Anyone situated close to the streams affected is advised to be cautious of the rising water levels.

Conditions are being monitored and updates will be issued as required, the release said.
