Who are you? Scott Ouellette

 

Age: 32.

Employers: Acklands-Grainger.

Occupation: Branch Manager.

Dream job? A professional golfer or hockey player. Maybe speaking about my experience with my heart transplant.

What happened? I had a massive heart attack when I was 28 and it killed the left side of my heart. I was on a machine that ran the left side of my heart for 113 days. I got the call, and they dropped a new heart in. It’s a gift that you never forget. 

Where are you from originally? Calgary until I was 21, moved to Red Deer, back to Calgary, and then back to Red Deer again. My mother is from Drumheller and my uncle still lives here.

How long have you lived in the Valley? I haven’t officially moved, but I will be on May 25.

What are some of your top travel destinations? Last summer, my wife, parents, and I went to Sweden for the World Transplant Games. We also hit Amsterdam and Venice. I want to play some of the best golf courses in the world like St. Andrews, Pebble Beach, or TPC Sawgrass.

What three things would you bring to a deserted island (excluding family)? My iPhone, golf clubs and an unlimited supply of golf balls.

Any celebrities you’d like to hang out with? I’d like to play a round of golf with Erik Compton. He’s a professional golfer and he’s had two heart transplants.

Choose one thing to eat for the rest of your life? My mother’s potato salad.

What is your most memorable childhood toy? A Dukes of Hazard pedal car. My sister would sit on the trunk and I would drive to the end of the block and then back home.

Favourite movies/TV shows? Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Dumb and Dumber. For TV, Modern Family and How I Met Your Mother. I’m a comedy person.

What would be your theme song? My Heart Will Go On, as cheesy as that sounds.

Favourite sports? Golf, hockey, and curling.

Any words of wisdom? Wake up every day and be happy you woke up.

Occupation: Program Specialist. I develop and run programs, teach, and do work out classes.
What do you like most about your job? My spin classes and getting to stay in shape.
Fitness a big part of your life then? Oh yeah, huge. It’s really important to me.
Where are you from? Cochrane.
How long have you lived in the Valley? A year and a half.
What do you like most about the Valley? Small town atmosphere and the hot weather.
Top travel destinations? I want to go to Australia really bad. I’d like to see Cuba and Dominican. Anywhere with hot weather.
When and where would you like go in time? Forwards to the future. I’d like to see where I’m at 15 years from now.
Hobbies? Tennis, wakeboarding, walking my dog, swimming, and badminton.
Choose one thing to eat for the rest of your life: Cookie dough ice cream.
Favourite movies? The Vow and The Notebook.
In your fictional autobiography, what genre would it be? It would be an adventure drama for sure.
One thing you miss about childhood? No responsibilities.
Most memorable childhood activity? Going to the outdoor rink with my brother.
What’s on your playlist? Nothing but country. Nothing old, just new modern.
If you had your own band, what instrument would you play? Lead acoustic guitar.
One song you’d sing at karaoke? Good Girl by Carrie Underwood.
Favourite teams? Chicago Blackhawks, but I don’t watch a lot of sports. Chicago is the only team I’d watch.
Favourite thing about summer? A lot more activities to do. Everyone is more cheerful. I can eat more ice cream.
What superpower would you want? Read minds, it would save me a lot of frustration. Or maybe time travel.
Words of wisdom? Believe in yourself and everything else will fall into place.

Age: 21.
Time to go to Vegas? Going for a wedding in May.
Employer? Sports Room Source for Sports.
Occupation? Manager.
What do you like most about your job? Working with the people here.
How long have you lived in the Valley? Since May last year.
Where are you from originally? Stettler.
What do you like most about the Valley? The summers and the DORVA track. I just got a dirt bike and it’s awesome to go to a track so close to home.
Anything you would change? It would be nice if we had more diverse restaurants.
Any travel destinations in mind? The Isle of Man, Scotland, and Ireland, especially during St. Patrick’s Day. Anywhere warm.
When and where would you go in time? Back to the 80’s. From what my mom tells me, it sounded pretty cool.
What three things would you bring to a deserted island (excluding friends/family)? A generator, a TV...A satellite dish? I’d be ok with peasant vision. How about a massage chair.
Hobbies? Dirt biking, travel, rescuing animals and finding them new homes, being outside.

Most memorable childhood toy? It’s a ball on a rope that you hook to your ankle and you would skip over it.
Favourite TV shows/Movies? Two and a Half Men, Big Bang Theory, and Friends. For movies, Fight Club and Bridesmaids.
Favourite bands? Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, Eminem, and New Medicine.
If you had your own band, what instrument would you play? The drums.
Favourite games? Super Mario Bros. and Pop Goes Perfection.
