SMOLIAK: Gloria, Lillian April 25, 1940 - February 23, 2008
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt and friend. Gloria Lillian Smoliak passed away peacefully on February 25, 2008 at the Drumheller Regional Health Complex at the age of 67 years. Gloria will be remembered and always loved by her mother Mary Kitt of Two Hills, AB., brother Loree (Yolande) Kitt of St. Paul, AB., two daughters Cathy (Charlie Hrabec) Smoliak of Drumheller, AB., Caren (Darcy) Thompson of Hesketh, AB and seven grandchildren, Maria, Emily, Kristian, Elizabeth, Kyle, Colton and Kelsey. Gloria will also be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Gloria was predeceased by her father Walter Kitt in May 2002. Gloria was born in Vegreville, AB April 29, 1940 to Walter and Mary Kitt. Gloria, along with her only sibling Loree, was raised in Two Hills. Upon graduation at Two Hills High School, Gloria quickly pursued her passions in the secretarial and office administration field by attending the Alberta College in Edmonton, AB. Gloria graduated with a Secretarial Diploma in 1959. While having an education/career to Gloria was important, she also realized her desire to become a loving, devoted mother. After the birth of her daughters, Cathy, in 1969 and Caren in 1971, she dedicated many years to being a full-time mother. Gloria did not return to the work force until she was certain her family was self-sufficient. In 1984, Gloria was employed with the Drumheller Composite High School. The teachers, support staff and students became her extended family as she gave the same dedication, loyalty and motherly regard to both daughters and work. It was evident Gloria took pride and joy in her work. In 2005, 20 years later, Gloria retired from the Drumheller Composite High School. Gloria will always be remembered for her giving nature and strong dedication to work and family. Gloria provided a stable background and steady influence throughout the years. We were truly blessed to have a mother we admired, respected and supported us to achieve our goals in life. A courageous woman, with a strong sense of family, will always be loved and remembered. Funeral services will be held at the Church of Nazarene on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 2:00 pm with Pastor James Clark officiating. Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Chapel entrusted with the arrangements.
