MUELLER: Harold
Harold William Mueller passed away March 20, 2008 at his home in Drumheller at the age of 81 years, surrounded by his wife Lorna and their five children. Through the last number of years and more particularly the recent months/weeks, Dad was challenged with advanced cancer. Despite his failing health, he never complained and was appreciative. Harold was born Feb 20, 1927 at the Conlin home in Ghost Pine Creek, Alberta. Harold married Lorna Anne Hoover from Delia on October 22, 1955, and recently celebrated their 52nd anniversary.¯ In his lifetime and throughout their marriage, Dads love for his family and 16 grandchildren was first and paramount. He will continue to be an influential mentor to their five children and immediate family members who include eldest daughter Elaine (husband Wayne; Brady Moses); son Darcy (wife Connie; Mitch, Kolton, Lincoln, Reagan); daughter Maxine (husband Dale; Darrel, Jason, Britney Alford); son Donald (wife Sheri; Zach, Taylor, Madi, Tatum); and youngest daughter Valerie (husband Rob Tinant; children Justin, Jesse, Brandi, Trennon).Harolds parents Robert William Mueller and Dianna (Gibb Hill) Mueller predeceased him in Jan 31/74 and Nov 10/67 respectively. Harold was one of five children and is survived by his two sisters Lois Steed (Muscatine, Iowa) and Dorothy Gilmore (Delta, B.C.) At very early ages, Harold's two brothers, Garnet and Donald passed away in 1919 and Mar 31/1937 respectively. Dads close cousin, Royden Fisher (Calgary) has been a valued and respected confidante and role model throughout his lifetime. The family farm, originally homesteaded in 1907 by Robert and Otto Mueller, has been successively farmed by Harold and Lorna, and their two sons/families (Darcy and Connie and Donald and Sheri). In recognition of this accomplishment, they jointly received the Provincial and Municipal Century Family Farm Award and celebrated this milestone in June, 2007 with family and friends. Since 1959 a truly valued working relationship and friendship has evolved with Frank Laslo when he began working with Harold and Lorna. Throughout his lifetime, Harold enjoyed participation and service towards Drumheller Co-op, Delia Masonic Lodge, Drumheller Stampede Barn, Ag Service Board, Planning Board and the M.D. of Kneehill. Harold will always be respected and remembered for his character and integrity, passion for farming, strong work ethic, fun loving, principles and values, philosophy and zest for living, positive attitude, genuine interest in others, progressive forward thinking approach, intrigue of farm machinery, thirst for knowledge, inquisitive nature, and his love to visit with absolutely everyone. All of Dads friends were extremely treasured and integral to his life. Genuine lifetime friend, Alex Bergos and brother-like friends Sandy Davie and Frank Laslo, were undeniably both admired and respected by Dad for their character, integrity and commitment. In recent decades, Bill Jones (deceased), Gordon Dodd (deceased) and Joe Demott have supplied Dad with endearing friendship, humor and comradery. Dads pallbearers represent some of the dear and respected families that he has had the opportunity to cherish and know. Harold lived his life in accordance with the principles of 'The Golden Rule.' (Do unto others as you would have others do unto you). He also firmly believed that you couldn't be a good boss until you could take the tool out of a mans hand, and show him how to use it.
On behalf of Harold, Lorna and family would like to especially acknowledge the timely, caring and thoughtful attention given to Harold and sincerely thank and mention Dr. D. Miller, Dr. L. Olfert, the staff from Home Care / Drumheller Hospital and Community Services, and Ray Ainscough /staff of Riverside Pharmacy.
