KOBE: Melinda
It is with great sadness, but also a sense of joy that we announce the passing from this world of our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Melinda Kobe on June 15, 2008, at the age of 96. We feel sadness for our loss, but great joy for her, as she has been freed from the difficulties of the this world and is now in the presence of her Heavenly Father. Melinda was born June 8,1912 in Laird, Saskatchewan to Elizabeth and Justice Koenig. She was an amazing lady, raising seven children and always being there for them. She was a skilled seamstress, making most of the clothes, when the children were young, plus her own. She had many talents such as building kitchen cupboards and table, and other furnishings during her younger years. She continued to make her own clothes and many quilts for her family and missionaries from around the world, as well as for the Women’s Shelter in Calgary up until about five years ago. She was a member of the Church of The Nazarene for over 50 years, serving her church and her God throughout her life. She was a virtuous women giving generously to multiple charities for the betterment of children in need around the world. Melinda leaves to mourn her children, Charlotte (Dick) Seth, Wayne (Betty) Kobe, Kathy (Don) Vickers, Dennis Kobe, Millie (Chuck) Sibbald and Brian (Anne) Kobe. Grandchildren Cory Hutchinson, Valen, Tom, Boyd, Trevor Kobe, Dave Vickers, and Jill Philis, Kelly, Dan and Scott Kobe, Tammy Curial, Marc Kobe, Jody Bialowas, Jacie Bradshaw and Chanelle Kobe, Ryan and Andrew Sibbald, Brett and Kevin Kobe and 20 great-grandchildren, plus many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson Kris Kobe, son Terry Kobe, husband Carl Kobe and one brother and five sisters. A funeral service will be held for Melinda at the Church of the Nazarene in Drumheller on Friday, June 20, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor James Clark officiating. Interment will take place at the Drumheller Cemetery following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Sunshine Lodge or the Palliative Care Unit at the Drumheller Health Centre.
KUCHER: Douglas Grant September 13, 1959 - June 12, 2008
Doug Kucher passed away suddenly in Drumheller, Alberta on June 12, 2008 at the age of 48 years. He is survived by his wife Kris, his two sons Grant, Melissa and Amilyn; and Gregory and Jodi and his parents Alex and Kate Kucher of Vilna, AB and Murray and Doreen McLellan of Drumheller, AB; one sister - Patricia Kenyon and Gary Schauer of Kelowna, BC, Colleen, Richard, CJ, Joey, Zoey and Mia Hatt of Ontario and Michael Kenyon of Edmonton, AB; and three brothers - Ron, Judy and Dayna Kucher of Saskatoon, SK; Ken and Gretchen Kucher of Seattle, Washington; Allan, Donna, Markus, Amber and Teegan Kucher of Kelowna, BC; and three brothers-in-law - Kerry, Pam and Kenneth McLellan and Alyssa, Brooklyn, and Lexia Christensen; Kevin, Brenda, Joelle, Kevin Jr., Konway, Blake and Braden McLellan; Jennifer, Matthew, Ella and Easton Andrew; Kent, Twyla, Christopher, Kyle, Daniel and Angela of Drumheller. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Robert Kim McLellan of Drumheller in 1997. Doug was born in Edmonton and raised in Vilna, AB. The family then moved to Kelowna where Doug completed his education. Upon completing high school, Doug moved to Drumheller where he met the love of his life. He worked for Alberta Transportation before taking a job at Hi-Way 9 and later at the Drumheller Institution where he was still employed at the time of his death. Doug and Kris were married June 18, 1983 and had two sons - Grant in 1984 and Gregory in 1985 - and raised their family in Drumheller. They celebrated the arrival of their first grandchild, Amilyn, in January 2007 and Doug considered her to be his special angel on whom the sun rose and set. They are expecting their second grandchild in early August. The funeral service will be Thursday, June 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Stampede & Ag. Society building (Dinosaur Downs).
