George: Maxine Katherine George  October 31, 1938 - March 22, 2008

Maxine Katherine George of Wintering Hills, widow of the late Randy George, passed away in Drumheller on March 22, 2008 at the age of 69 years. Born in Thelma, Alberta on October 31, 1938 she received her education in Cochrane. Maxine Jahn and Randy were married in Calgary on February 20, 1960 and they farmed in Gem, Alberta, until moving to their current farm in the Wintering Hills. She loved fishing and her time spent in Sicamous, British Columbia. Maxine will be remembered for her love and support of her family and for her love of the land. Maxine was predeceased by her husband Randy on November 13, 2007 and parents Max Jahn on April 3, 1980 and Katherine Jahn on March 28, 2004. She is survived by her son Bill and grandchildren Robyne and Randy; sisters Mary (Leo) Watrin and Betty (Bob) Baptie; brother Max (Sandi) Jahn and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 4th at 2:00 PM from Knox Presbyterian Church, Bassano, Alberta. Rev. Peter Baek and Rev. Hector Rose officiating. Halahuric: Simone Halahuric (Hanneuse)  July 15, 1910 - March 18, 2008

Simone passed away March 18, 2008 in Edmonton at the age of 97. She is survived by two sisters, Maude & Ida of Victoria, BC and two sons John of Hussar and Frank of Olds.


Leonhardt:  Agnes

Agnes Leonhardt passed away peacefully at the Hanna Health Care Centre on March 28, 2008 at the age of 80 years. A Funeral Service will be held from the Grace Lutheran Church on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 12:00 P.M. Oleynik: Tina - 1923 – 2008


Tina passed away at the Three Hills Continuing Care Centre on March 24th, 2008 at the age of 84. Tina was born on June 25, 1923 in Poland. She spent the war years in Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1948. Tina and her late husband, Joseph operated the family shoe store and repair in Acme, Alberta. In 1959 the family moved to Three Hills and opened “Oleynik’s Footwear”. Tina was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 1990.  She is survived by her loving daughters: Helen (Tom), Joyce (Terry), Fran (Steve) and seven grandchildren: Chris (Nicole), Brett (Rhiannon), Jen (Pascal), Danny (Amber), Taylor, Sarah (Glenn), Joe and two great grandchildren: Keane and Ethan and all her special friends. “All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother” Abraham Lincoln Funeral Mass was held on Friday, March 28th, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Three Hills, Alberta with Father Les Drewicki officiating. Inurnment to follow at a private family gathering at a later date. Sandum: Gordon

Gordon Sandum, beloved husband of the late Helen Sandum, passed away on March 28, 2008 at the age of 73 years, after a courageous battle with cancer.  Gordon will be greatly missed by his children; Donna (Darryl) and Alvin (Kim) and his grandchildren; Jennifer, Jason, Justin, Ciara and Wacy. Gordon was born in Bassano on February 24, 1935.  He grew up in the Duck Lake area, attending school at the small rural schools.  He married Helen on June 25, 1959 and they continued to live and farm in the Duck Lake area. Gordon enjoyed hunting, fishing, curling and watching his grandkids play hockey.  He was a great supporter of the 4-H Beef club in Hussar and never missed a sale.  He was a wise, caring man who was a farmer in the truest sense of the word.  He cared about his land and his livestock.  He had a wonderful sense of humour and loved reminiscing about the old times with friends and family.  His family meant the world to him and they always came first. Wilson: Margaret Lois (Doyle)

Our Mum, Gran, Auntie and friend, joined her daughter Corinne in heaven on March 29.2008.  Margaret was the first daughter of seven children born to Alice E. Matheson and William P. Doyle in Dodsland, SK, Jan. 8,1920. She grew up in Hoosier, SK and began her life away from the family farm in 1937 in Vancouver. In 1939 she moved to Calgary, met Mervin Wilson and married in 1943. Together they raised six children: Marilyn (Paul Dyck), Lenore (Peter Pfiffig), Corinne (Don Morris), Gerald, Sharlane Cressman (Clive Donaldson), & Laverne Cressman (Ruth Andres). They have welcomed and enjoyed 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In 64 years together she and Mervin were active community members, and traveled over 250,000 Km by motor home, collecting family, friends and genealogy info which produced 2 books. Her legacy to us includes a strong faith, love of books, music, the value of hard work, enjoyment and care of family and home, the joy and purpose of simple living, and a door always open. A service to celebrate her life will be held in Rosebud, the community she loved, on Thursday, April 3 at 12 p.m. , in the Evangelical Covenant Church (west side).
