VOCKEROTH: Grace Muriel (nee Wilson)   June 8, 1929 - October 22, 2007

Grace was born in Delia, AB to Scottish immigrants James and Grace Wilson, who homesteaded near Delia upon their arrival in Canada. Mom was the fifth of six children. They were raised and educated in Delia. After completing High School, Mom went to work in the local telephone office. During those years, she never turned down a game of softball or a chance to go to a Saturday night dance. She then moved to Drumheller and went to work in the telephone office there. She met Roy Vockeroth on a blind date in 1956 and they were married in May of 1957. They moved to Calgary and were blessed with their first child, Ricky Roy, in October of 1959. They returned to Drumheller in 1963 and Mom gave birth to her second child, Carol Grace, in December of that year. Dad worked construction while Mom looked after the house and children. They moved to the Doyle Farm in the Kneehill area in 1969 and spent five years enjoying the hard work and many rewards of country life with which they had both grown up. While Dad worked the land and raised livestock, Mom had a huge garden and large yard to keep her busy. She spent many happy hours sowing, weeding, watering and canning the garden. When winter hours kept her indoors, she loved to play cards with many friends, doing crossword or jigsaw puzzles, and cooking or sewing, all the things a Mother did. Many was the day when we kids came home from school to the smell of fresh baked bread or cookies, butter tarts or some other homemade goody. They then farmed the Cosgrave Ranch near Rosebud for a year before returning to Drumheller, when Dad started his backhoe business. Mom took over the role of Secretary and Bookkeeper until Dad’s retirement in 1991. She took great pride in her yard and garden in town as well, especially, the prestige of growing the finest tomatoes around. After Dad’s death in 1997, she moved to the Manor to live out her years, missing her garden, but enjoying her puzzles and cards, and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her sister Louise Pearson; sister-in-law Elaine Wilson; son Rick and daughter-in-law Sandra; granddaughter Mandy; great-grandson Daenen; daughter Carol and good friends and cousin-in-law Arlene Turner; as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends too numerous to mention. Mom was predeceased by her parents; her husband Roy; her grandson Danny; three sisters - Irene King, Darwina Imler and Margaret Oakes; one brother Bill Wilson; and many friends and relatives. Mom’s wishes were honored by cremation and her ashes will join Dad’s. There will be no service at her request. If anyone desires, Mom and family would be pleased if donations were made to S.T.A.R.S. in her name. S.T.A.R.S., Box 570, 1441 Aviation Park, N.E., Calgary, AB. T2E 8M7.
