BATTLE: Wilma F. 1921 - 2007
Mrs. Wilma F. Battle of Red Deer, Alberta passed away peacefully at
the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer following a long fight with
pancreatitis on Thursday, May 10, 2007 at the age of 85 years.
Wilma was born on November 18, 1921 in Delia, Alberta to Martin and Florence Julson. She was raised on her father’s farm, attending school in Delia (Starland) until 1938. Wilma met and was later united in marriage on October 28, 1939 to John Battle Jr. They were blessed with their first child, Russell Gary on November 6, 1940. Wilma and John farmed together in the Delia District until 1941, at which time John enlisted in the army. Wilma and their young son moved into Delia while John served during W.W.II. John returned home on September 23, 1945, and Wilma and John purchased the family farm from John’s father in 1946 through the Department of Veterans Affairs. The young family grew, as Diana Gail was born April 28, 1947, Sandra Irene followed on July 17, 1952, David John on May 17, 1956, and Elizabeth Lynn was born on February 29, 1964. Wilma and John left farming in 1969, and moved their family to Crossfield, Alberta. In 1972, the family moved to Nanaimo, B.C. for a few years, returning to Red Deer, Alberta in 1975. Upon their retirement in 1987, Wilma and John moved to Drumheller where they enjoyed many years together in a senior’s housing complex, returning to Red Deer in 1996. John passed away in 2002, and Wilma continued to reside in Red Deer until the present time. “Wilma will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.”
Wilma will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her son, David Battle of Sylvan Lake; her three daughters, Diana (Garren) Battle of Red Deer; Sandra (Jim) Zielke of Chilliwack, B.C.; and Elizabeth Battle of Red Deer; and her daughter-in-law, Evelyn Battle of Lethbridge; as well as eleven grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered by two sisters, Virena Little of Calgary; and Enid Carter of White Rock, B.C.; in addition to many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Wilma was predeceased by her parents; her husband, John in 2002; her son, Russell in 2000; two grandsons, Gary and Thomas; one great granddaughter, Angelica; and her brother, Mervin Julson.
A Public Memorial Service in Celebration of Wilma’s Life was held at the Delia United Church, Delia on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Clarence Sellars officiating. Interment followed in the Delia Cemetery, Delia. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer. CONNELLY: Margaret
It is with great sadness that we announce that Margaret passed away
on May 2, 2007, at the age of 72, at the Blairmore Hospital. She was predeceased
by her parents Tom and Anne and two brothers, Joe and Jim. Margaret is survived
by a brother Tom (Irene) Connelly of Calgary and sister Nan (Julian) Saganski of
Regina. Services will be conducted in Drumheller at a later date.

GRENIER: Irene Jane 1908 - 2007
Irene Jane Grenier passed away peacefully on May 10, 2007. She is
survived by her sister Alice Gayse of Sylvan Lake, AB as well as numerous nieces
and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and nine brothers and sisters.
Irene spent many years working as a secretary in the Parliament building in
Ottawa, ON. She retired from her career with the Federal Government and later
moved to Calgary to be closer to her family where she resided until death. She
will be sadly missed.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at 2 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 5504 - 20 Street S.W., Calgary, with interment to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. OTRASEK: Kay (nee Danyluk)
The family of Kay Otrasek (nee Danyluk) sadly announce her passing on
Wednesday, May 9, 2007. She died peacefully with dignity and grace.
Mom possessed a quiet strength, gentle nature and appreciated the simple things
in life. Those who knew and loved her recognized that she was a very special
person and she will live on in the memories of all those whose lives she
touched. We will miss her greatly and love her always.
Left to mourn her passing are her loving daughter Kathy and son-in-law Jim; her much loved granddaughter Robin; special nephew Michael Danyluk; sisters-in-law Mary Danyluk and Vonnie Danyluk; and neighbours and friends. She was predeceased by her daughter Marion, husband Michael, parents and three brothers - George, Mike and Willie. She wished to leave her life as she lived it - quietly. A family memorial will be held at a later date in Calgary, where she will be interred with her daughter and husband.
