BUDENSKI: Dennis  1920 - 2007

Mr. Dennis Budenski, longtime resident of the Drumheller Valley passed away in Drumheller on June 16, 2007 at the age of 87 years. Dennis was born April 8, 1920 to William and Katherina Budenski, right in his grandmother’s home in Newcastle. Dennis took his schooling in East Coulee, after school, he joined the army, spending time at the internment camp in Suffield. It was there that he trained to become a cook. Upon his return, he worked for Miller’s Bakery in East Coulee, Commander Mine in Nacmine, then in the Atlas Coal Mine in East Coulee. Dennis married Annie Charleston on December 31, 1940, the couple had three children, which they raised in the Drumheller Valley. In later years, Dennis worked for Evans Construction in Saskatoon where he was the supervisor of the paving plant. He ended his working career with his son Bill at the Drumheller Radiator Shop as Owner/Operator, he was in charge of the welding shop. Dennis had a real thirst for knowledge, he studied engineering by correspondence, he took a welding course, as well as being a self taught artist who even delivered information speeches on art. At a rather late age, he became very knowledgeable in the world of computers, even educating his daughter. Dennis was very interested in photography, and classical music, especially Beethoven. He was also the president of the Allied Art Council and on the board of the Valley Bus Society. Dennis loved to read history books, he thought that you should learn something from whatever you read, and he also was the head geneologist for the Budenski Family Tree, and his passion was his tomato plants. Dennis was never bored in his retirement, he had so many pastimes to choose from.

Dennis was predeceased by his wife Annie on March 20, 1985, his parents, daughter-in-law Shirley, and three brothers-in-law. Dennis leaves behind, his children, William (Terry) of Chilliwack, Henry (Jackie) of Hinton, Ann Howells of Drumheller; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; best friend and companion, Ann Michielin (her son Rick and family); two sisters, Bernice Gilliespie, Alice Gordon; sister-in-law Margaret Nelson; good friend Mike Kochan; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a lifetime of friends.

Funeral services for Dennis will be held Thursday, June 21, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. from Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Home, with interment to follow in the Drumheller Cemetery. Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Home are in care of the arrangements.

CAMPBELL: Maureen  1931 - 2007

Maureen passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 10, 2007, at the age of 75 years.  Maureen was predeceased by her precious mother Leola Borwick in 2003 and her father Charley Borwick in 1972.  Maureen will live on forever in the hearts of her son Jeff (LeeAnn); her only grandchild Josh and his mother Bev Campbell. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brothers Don Borwick (Dorothy) and Ian Borwick (Kathy); and many nieces and nephews.

Maureen was born and raised in the Orkney district and completed her high school and achieved top academic standings at Drumheller High. During her high school years (1946-49) she lived in a dormitory where she made many life long friends. For several years Maureen lived with her family in Drumheller, Hanna, Coronation, Calgary and Orkney. In 1960 Maureen and her family moved to a farm in the Caroline area where they raised prize winning Suffolk and Hampshire sheep. In 1985 she moved to Calgary to be near her family. For the past eight years she lived at Carroll Place where she faithfully cared for her mother until Grannie’s passing. Maureen was an avid sports fan. She was especially interested in any game that her son or grandson played. She was a devoted football fan while her grandson Josh played for the Dino’s University of Calgary team. Grandma was always the first person in the stands, even for the warm-ups.

Maureen has requested a private family service. This will be followed by a gathering of family and friends at the Caroline Legion, on Sunday, June 24 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial tributes may be made directly to Helping Youth Through Educational Scholarships “HYTES” a charitable organization that provides educational scholarships to youth in developing countries. DICK: Alexander William  1912 - 2007

Alex ( known by everyone as Dick) of Michichi, Alberta passed away peacefully in the Drumheller Hospital on the evening of Wednesday June 13th, 2007. Dick was born in the homestead shack at Gartley, AB. On May 22, 1912. His family moved 4 ½ miles north of the homestead when he was 7 years old, and he lived in that same house his whole life. He married Mary Watters in March 1941 , and they raised two daughters Carol and Beverly.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary, of 61 years in January 2003, his parents William and Mable Dick, and his brother Ed Dick. Dick is survived by his daughters Carol (Ted) Morris of Grand Forks, BC, and Beverly (Ron) Deitz of Calgary; four grandsons Todd (Liza) Trohan of Michichi, Corey (Tina) Trohan of Red Deer AB., Darren (Maria) Deitz and Jeff (Theresa) Deitz of Calgary. He is also survived by five special grandsons Taylor and Brett Trohan of Michichi, AB., Austin Trohan of Red Deer, and Nicholas & Noah Deitz, of Calgary, and one great-granddaughter Katelin Trohan of Red Deer., and his only sister, and last surviving member of the family Bernice Seitz, of Victoria, BC, as well as many nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his many friends and old neighbours.

Dad loved the farm and never wanted to leave. His happiest times were when he was with his family. He always enjoyed taking everyone out to supper at Fred & Barney’s, because he felt it was the one thing he could do for his family. It was hard to believe that Dad was 95 years old because his great grandsons kept him young. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and he loved to visit with people. He was a lifetime member of Pioneer Acres. He was a true farmer to the core, and he loved all animals, especially his two pet cats and housemates, “The Boys”.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, June 19 at Mountainview Memorial Gardens in Calgary with Pastor Harold Hunter officiating. Honorary pallbearers were all of Dick’s friends and relatives. Active pallbearers were his grandsons, Todd and Corey Trohan, Darren and Jeff Deitz, and his great grandsons, Taylor and Brett Trohan. DROPKO: Drew  1963 - 2007

It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Drew Dropko on June 14, 2007 near Beiseker, Alberta at the age of 44 years. Andrew (Drew) Michael Victor Dropko was born on March 13, 1963, beloved son of Andy and Olga Dropko, Drew lived the majority of his life in Rosedale, he took all of his schooling in Drumheller. Drew was passionate about cars. Everthing from buying and trading cars, to driving them as often as he could, to attending car shows every year, to watching car racing and even being designated to drive for his friends. Drew was often seen washing his car (especially the lights), filling the tires or checking the oil or other fluids-he simply loved cars. Drew was an avid sports fan, he watched all the sports that he could find on the satellite, and he was a huge Eskimos fan and Boston Bruins fan right back to his childhood. Drew also enjoyed the CB radio as a teen and his music. He made many home tapes, all grenres for himself and his friends. There was nothing like KISS to Drew, he wore the t-shirts and caps showing his loyalty. Drew was a good friend, a teasing brother, a nephew who was close with his Uncle in Edmonton, and a loving son who cared for his mother for the past two years. Drew was predeceased by his father, Andy Dropko. He leaves to mourn his mother, Olga Dropko of Drumheller, sister, Romona Marshall of Calgary, Uncle Albert and Aunt Laurette Dropko of Edmonton and family, Uncle John Macy of Drumheller, Aunt Kay Janswick of Warman, Sask. and family, cousins, Brian and Carol Flinn of Chestermere and family, Brian and Linda Zacharuk of Drumheller and family. Service of Remembrance will be held Saturday June 23, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. from Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Chapel. HAAHR: Gerald Raymond  December 11, 1943- June 16, 2007

Jerry Haahr, a resident of Drumheller, AB for 40 years, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2007 with his family by his side, at the Drumheller Health Centre, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Jerry was born in Empress, AB on December 11, 1943. He was raised in Acadia Valley, AB, where his family farmed and then later owned Haahr’s M&M Store. After some moving around, Jerry settled in Drumheller so that he could be near his mom. Here he married Virginia (nee Marshall) of Acadia Valley on March 8, 1969 and carried on to proudly raise their three wonderful children. He worked as a battery operator in the oil and gas industry for 20 years and then entered into semi-retirement, where he became a custodian at St. Anthony’s School.
Jerry will most affectionately be remembered for his love of sports, camping, music, crosswords and jigsaw puzzles, but above all else, for the love he had for his family and friends and the treasured time he spent with them.

He was predeceased by his father Viggo in 1962, great nephew Ryan in 1983, brother John “Jack” in 2001, father-in-law Jake in 2003, and nephew Patrick in 2006. Left to cherish the wonderful memory of Jerry are his loving wife of 38 years, Virginia; son Bart (Sheryl); daughters Shannon (Cory) and Jodi; six beautiful grandchildren, Taylor, Rory, Macy, Lucas, Kaitlyn and Hailey; his mother Ida; sister Caryl; his uncle Bill; as well as extended family and many friends.

A Prayer Service will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 7 p.m. at Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Home, Drumheller. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, June 21, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church, Drumheller. MARTIN: Edna Orma

Our beloved Mother, sister, grandma, great grandma passed away on June 10, 2007 at the Drumheller Continuing Care. She was predeceased by her husband James Henry Martin on July 5, 1966. Edna is survived by her sisters, Mabel and Ivy, two sons Greg (Bonnie), Rex (Noreen), three grandsons, Greg (Tara), Darren (Gina), Luc, one great grandson Jaden. Edna enjoyed gardening, growing cactus and geraniums. She was so proud of her “May Day Tree” in the backyard, she even made front page news in the Hanna Herald. Edna will be missed by her family and friends. Graveside services were held Friday June 15, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. from the Hanna Cemetery, family and friends gathered at the Doll Palace for a time of fellow ship and light refreshments. McCABE:  Lori Anne

Remembering Lori Anne McCabe

Lori Anne Leonhardt was born to Lawrence and Agnes in Drumheller, AB on May 18, 1963. She was their second child, preceded by her brother, Brian. She was baptized in Drumheller at Grace Lutheran Church.She grew up on her family’s farm, enjoying her life of farm work and the many animals they kept. Lori participated enthusiastically in 4-H activities. She was an avid sewer, she showed steers in competitions and she enjoyed public speaking. Lori loved to read. Her favourite books were the writings of L.M. Montgomery, author of the Anne of Green Gables series. She also read the Bible, taking special strength and comfort in the Psalms. After moving out on her own, Lori went to college to study to be a Teacher’s Aide. She worked in that field prior to meeting Veryle McCabe. They were married on September 2, 1989 in an outdoor ceremony in Drumheller. During their first married years they lived in Calgary and made a special trip to Prince Edward Island to see the country of Lori’s favourite stories. On November 12, 1992, they were blessed with their first child, daughter Anne Marie, and on February 10, 2000 they welcomed Nytasha into their family. Lori loved her family. Lori fought a long and hard struggle with cancer. She did not want to leave Veryle, Anne Marie and Nytasha. She turned to God for help in her sickness and grew in confidence that He was with her through it all. Early in the morning of June 9, 2007, Lori’s fight with cancer ended, and she rested in the arms of Jesus her Savior. Lori was blessed with many friends. She was especially grateful for those who supported her through the years of her sickness. She will sadly missed by all who knew her.

VARGA: Allison Joanne

We are sad to announce the short life of our baby, Allison Joanne. She came and went in an instant on June 14, 2007 taking with her a lifetime of hopes and dreams we had for her. We will hold her in our hearts forever.Stewart, Jody and Danielle Varga
