AUCKLAND: Donald Edgar “Scotty”

Donald (Scotty) Edgar Auckland passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2007 in continuing care at Drumheller Hospital and Care Centre, after a long struggle with lung disease. He was 80 years old. Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are; his beloved friend and companion, Dorothy; his daughters Caroline Auckland-Thompson (Bruce), two grandchildren Brianna and Evan and his brother Gordon of Graham, Washington. He will also be missed by a plethora of nieces and nephews from coast to coast. Scotty is predeceased by Irene, his wife of 43 years, who passed away in 1995. Her cremated remains will be buried with him in the Munson Cemetery. He is also predeceased by his sister Dora Semple of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Born and raised a prairie boy from Viscount, Saskatchewan. Scotty joined the Armed Forces in 1946 as an aero engine mechanic. Over the years he was able to see much of the world. He retired from the services in 1977 and remained in Belleville, Ontario. After Irene passed away, Scotty finally decided to move to Alberta where his daughter Caroline and her family were residing in Calgary. Scotty wanted to return to the prairie and has lived in Munson, Alberta for the last 8 1/2 years. A funeral service was held from Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Skip McArthur officiating.  If friends and family so desire, they may make donations to Drumheller Health Care Centre; Continuing Care Unit (351 9th street N.W., Drumheller, Alberta, T0J 0Y1) Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Chapel entrusted with the arrangements.

MADSEN: Edesse Marie

Edesse Marie Madsen, beloved wife of Niels (Bob) Madsen of Drumheler, passed away peacefully, on July 17, 2007 at the Drumheller Health Complex at the age of 92. She is survived by her sister, Yolande Crory of Drayton Valley and brother Gerald (Jeannette) Rougeau of Innisfail. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Lucina Rougeau, brothers René Rougeau and Armand Rougeau. Edesse will be lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-law Elene Montgomery of Rosedale and Eleanora (Bill) Vogt of Picture Butte. She was adored by and has a special place in the heart of many nieces and nephews. Edesse was born in 1915 in Quebec. Her family moved to Hussar, AB, where Edesse spent her childhood in the farming community. In 1963 she and Bob Madsen were married and continued to farm just north of Hussar until 1972 when they retired to Drumheller. Over the years Edesse enjoyed entertaining, camping and keeping in touch with family. Edesse also touched the lives of all who had the opportunity to know her. She will be forever remembered for the smile on her face and the twinkle in her eyes.

STREIT: Mrs. Winnifred  1938 - 2007

It is with great sadness that on July 20, 2007 after a courageous fight with leukemia, that Winnie Streit, 69 years old, passed away at the Tom Baker Cancer Center in Calgary with her husband and family by her side. Winnie (Winnifred) Joyce Streit was born February 24, 1938, the 5th born of 6 to Roy & Fern Rounds. Married July 22, 1961 to the love of her life David Streit of Stettler.

Winnie leaves behind to mourn her husband, four children, their spouses, eight grandchildren, sisters Geraldine Barsness of Calgary and Marion (Paul) Eckes of Eckville, Aunt Sanny McCrady of Rimbey, sisters-in-law, brothers-in law, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She is predeceased by her father and mother, brother Gordon and his wife Grace Rounds, brothers Wilfred Rounds and Robert Rounds, brothers-in-law Erv Barsness, Arnold Anderson, father and mother-in-law: William and Gertrude Streit, and brothers-in-law Gerry Streit, Donald Streit, and Bill Streit. Dave and Winnie have four children: Brad Streit (Shelley Grollmus)of Calgary, Cindy (Ken) Redekopp, their daughter Lexi of Calgary, Mike (Rebecca) Streit, their daughter Carys and son Aron of Okotoks, and Greg (Kimberly) Streit, their son Kolton, daughter Sahara and sons Kinnkade, Kexton and Kedrixx of Red Deer & their chosen daughter Anne (Don) Basnett of Edmonton. When she fell in love with Dave, she was working at the radio station CKRD during the early sixties.  Through out the years, whether they lived in Rocky Mtn. House, Peace River, Prince Albert, Sk, Drumheller (radio station and school) or Red Deer, Winnie always worked somewhere doing something she enjoyed. When they settled in Red Deer, she worked at the radio station again then moved onto work for the Red Deer Public School Board that she enjoyed for several years. An opportunity came for her to pursue owning her own business which she did with great passion by being the President of Allures Central Ltd. for 14 years until her retirement in the spring of 2003. Winnie was also involved with C.A.T. for many years for she loved music and musicals and was a great part of the AB Freestyle Skiing Club which she enjoyed with her children. Winnie was an integral member of the Laureate Kappa Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi for the past 25 + years. Winnie’s greatest joy in life was spending precious moments with her 8 grandchildren and was well loved for her amazing birthday cakes that she made for each of them every year. She always made every occasion and holiday special for each and every one of them. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, cooking, experimenting making new things and travelling to many different places with her husband & family members. Winnie always tried to help others in many different ways. She touched the lives of everyone she met. Winnie never went to bed the same day she got up! She was a very busy, hard working lady. She was well loved by all who knew her especially by her children, their spouses and grandchildren. During the last few hours of her precious life, her loving devoted husband knew how to put a smile on her face by gently blowing a kiss to her then catch it quickly and gently place it on her lovingly. VOGEL: Lillian

Mrs. Lillian Mary Vogel passed away at the Drumheller Hospital on Wednesday, July 18, 2007. Lillian enjoyed planting her flowers every spring, she loved her gardening. She was a wonderful homemaker, always welcoming her family with wonderful baking and meals.  In March of 2003 dad passed away and shortly after that she began a courageous fight with cancer that she met with grace and dignity. Lillian leaves to mourn her passing her son Joe (Pauline), daughters, Judy (Dale) Berry, Faye Jackson, Joyce (Clifford) Ulsanden, Jane Seely, Mary-Agnes Vogel and Bill Smith; 11 grandchildren, and 7 great grand-children; two sisters; Lucille and Ruth. Lillian was predeceased by her husband William, a brother Joe and a sister Pearl. A Funeral Service was held from Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Chapel on Monday, July 23, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor James Clark officiating. WOOLSEY: 1928 - 2007

Mr. Rowland Stewart Woolsey of Okotoks, Alberta, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2007, at the age of 78 years. He was born on October 30, 1928 at Penzance, Saskatchewan.  Rowland is survived by his companion, Joyce Johnson of Okotoks, Alberta, two sons, Allan (Irina) Woolsey of Moscow, Russia, Rod (Charlene) Woolsey, a daughter, Karen (Colin) Trevors both of Red Deer, Alberta, ten grandchildren, Chelsea, Evan and Vanessa Trevors; Grant, Jeff, Carissa and Michelle Woolsey; Brianne, Tyler and Michael Woolsey and one great grandchild on the way.
