DUFFIELD: Charles  January 23, 1914 - May 28, 2006

Charles Duffield passed away peacefully on May 28, 2006 at the age of  92 years.  He was born on January 23, 1914 to Harry and Jane Duffield in the Country of Birmingham, England. Charles came to Canada at the age of 7 years.  He was one of Canada’s  80 thousand child immigrants who made a new life in a strange country.   Charles worked on various farms in New Brunswick where he met and  married Ella May Graham.  Together they raised 4 children.  They worked  hard and enjoyed the occasional Saturday evening playing cards with  friends.  Over the years Charles worked at various jobs, never idle,  and especially enjoyed woodworking and doing small renovating jobs for  folks in the community.  He spent many years as Sexton of St. Anne’s  Paris Church in Fredericton.  After retirement, Charles and Ella moved  to Alberta where they enjoyed many years of Christmas celebrations with  family at the acreage in Hesketh until their passing. Charles is survived by two daughters; Wilma Fraser and Sharon (Steven)  Wolchina, grandchildren; Linda, Donna, Larry, Stephen, Keith, Paul,  Deeon, Jeanette, Tracy, Valerie, Adam and Courtney as well as numerous  great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Ella, sons; Charles Richard, and Brian  Roger, grandson; Bobby, and son-in-law Ralph. Dad was a quiet, reserved, gentleman who worked very hard to raise his  family and give them all the good things in life that he never had. A Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2006 at 2:00pm from  Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Chapel.  Interment to follow the service at  the Drumheller Municipal Cemetery, Drumheller, Alberta.  Donations may  be made to St. Mary’s Continuing Care Centre, Box 100, Trochu, Alberta,  T0M 2C0. VICKERS:Jennifer  May 9, 1924 - May 23, 2006

Jennifer passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 23rd,  2006 at the Continuing Care facility in Drumheller. Jennie was born May 9, 1924 in Drumheller to Joseph and Mary Serkownak. She was raised in  Newcastle where she worked along side her parents in the garden,   delivering milk and whatever other chores needed to be done. Although  times were hard her parents wanted their children well educated. Jennie  received her education at the cottages in Newcastle, Central School,  and Drumheller High School. After graduating in 1943 she was off to  Business College in Calgary. There she received her Secretary and  Business Administration Certificate. After graduating from the college  she worked at the Greyhound Bus Depot in Calgary. The next year Jennie  was asked by Mr. Poxon to come back to Drumheller and work in his Red  Bus Lines office. Jennie next went to work for N.B. Vickers at the  Hardware Store. While working at the store Jennie met the love of her  life. Jennie and Blake were married October 2, 1946. They were blessed  with 5 children: Billy, Nelson, Mary, Jack, and Joan. She devoted her  life to Blake, their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  In addition to her family, Jennie always made time for her friends  especially Edna Anderson, Susie Thomas and the rest of the birthday  club. She also volunteered with the United Church Women’s group. Jennie  worked hard, helping to harvest the crops, tending to her garden, and took pride in working at “Vickers Pharmacy”. She leaves to mourn her loss, her loving husband Blake of 60 years, her  children Nelson (Mary Anne), Mary (Dale) Hobbs, Jack (Val) and Joan  (Rick) Nelson. Grandchildren: Elizabeth (Jeff) Zacharuk, Camille, Erin,  Cassandra and Blake; Travis (Jennifer) Hobbs, David (Tracy) Hobbs and  Jennifer Hobbs; Megan and Joe Vickers; Alana (Michael) Rees and Matthew  Nelson. Great grandchildren: Sydney, Payton, and Cayden Zacharuk. Her  brother-in-law Bruce Vickers and many nieces, nephews and friends will  fondly remember her. Her son Billy in 1951, her parents, her brother Edward Serkownak, and  sister-in-law Sina Vickers all predeceased Jennie. The family wishes to thank Dr. Racz and the wonderful staff at the  Drumheller Continuing Care Center, who gave her the best care possible.  A funeral service was held Saturday, May 27 at the Knox United Church,  Drumheller. WILSON: John E.  August 27, 1915 - May 22, 2006

John Wilson passed away peacefully May 22, 2006 with his dearly loved  wife Prudence at his side.  He was our dear husband, brother, uncle and  cousin.  John was born in Stettler, Alberta and passed away at the  Drumheller Continuing Care. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Prudence; his two  nieces, Patricia Lopez and her children Roxanne, Katty and Alexander;  Kathy Wilson (Andy); nephew Jim Wilson (Eileen) and their children  Richard, Gregory, Hailey all of the Toronto area; as well as numerous  cousins in the Wilson and  McKee families. John was predeceased by his father William; mother Kate; and brothers  Bill, Frank, Norman and baby Harry. John farmed in the Rowley district most of his life until his  retirement in 1992 when he moved to Drumheller.  He served overseas for  1875 days!!  His regiment was in charge of communications.  He was a  member of the Rumsey Legion and the Drumheller Masonic Symbol Lodge  #93.  He was a great supporter of his community in whatever capacity he
could offer.  He served as a steward of the United Church in Rumsey.   John could fix almost anything and kept the farm surviving with his  many talents.  These included his inventions!!  John had a great sense  of humor which carried him through to his last days.  He loved his many  dogs and will be missed by his most recent, Snowball. The Family wishes to thank the Staff at the Drumheller Continuing Care  for the excellent treatment he received while in their trust and Dr.  Olfert for the compassion and caring over the many years. A Funeral service was held in the Rowley Community Hall, Rowley,  Alberta on Friday, May 26th, 2006 at 2:00pm.  If family and friends so  desire donations may be made to the Drumheller Health Centre or the  Parkinson Society of Canada.
