BERTSCH: Ella

Ella Bertsch, formerly of Three Hills and Drumheller, passed away in Red Deer on Saturday, February 18, 2006. Funeral service will be at the Carbon
Baptist Church on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 1:00 PM.

BIXBY: George

George Bixby passed away Sunday, February 19, 2006 in Drumheller, at the age of 78 years. He is survived by his loving family, son, Bud and Shelley of Strathmore, one brother, Frank and Linda of East Coulee; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a lifetime of friends. George was predeceased by his wife Rose in 1982, son Rocky in 2002, parents Fred and Agnes, as well as five brothers, Percy, Lloyd, Rob, Norman and Harold, three sisters, Alice Bixby, Pearl McFadden and Evelyn Frayn. George enjoyed country music, shuffleboard, horseshoes and spending time with good friends and family. A celebration of George's life will be held Thursday, February 23, 2006 at 2:00 PM at the Royal Canadian Legion, Drumheller. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Sunshine Lodge in memory of George. The Bixby Family are entrusted with arrangements.

CHIASSON: Olive Ceaserea  1914 - 2006

Olive Ceaserea Chiasson passed away peacefully at home in Sundre on February 15, 2006 at the age of 92 years.  Olive was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on February 13, 1914. As a child Olive lived in Winnipeg and Virden, Manitoba as well as Weyburn, Saskatchewan.  She and her daughter moved from Winnipeg to Calgary in 1965, where she met her late husband Wilf in 1967. They spent many happy years together in Wayne, where they married in 1978.  They retired in Sundre, Alberta in the early eighties. Olive spent a large portion of her life selling everything from fashion jewelry, investments and makeup to Rawleigh and Watkin Products. Olive was also proud of the time she spent serving as a County Counselor in the Drumheller area. Olive was predeceased by her parents Grace and John Milne and her husband Wilf.  Olive is survived by her daughter Grace, son-in-law Sergio, stepchildren Reg (Patricia), Pat (Chuck), DeWayne (Dulcie) and Lyle (Linda), grandchildren Jordan (Jordana) Stephen, Jennifer and her faithful dog 'Willow' In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Olive¹s honor may be made to STARS Air Ambulance. CLIFFORD: Verda May (nee Gore)  1909 - 2006

Verda May Clifford, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Saturday, February 18th, 2006, at the Hanna Health Centre, at 96 years of age. She was predeceased by husband Harvey in 1993, sisters Louisa Gore and Vietta Wacker, and brother Bill Gore. She is survived by her children, Vietta (Lloyd) Johnson of Cody, Wyoming, Glen Clifford of Delia, and Wayne (Maureen) Clifford of Calgary; her grandchildren, Mark (Shannon) Allan of California, Tara (Mike) Styers of Alaska, and Lauren and Kellen Clifford of Calgary; and 11 great-grandchildren. As Delia¹s oldest citizen, Verda was an active member of the social community, participating in activities at the seniors¹ centre and the United Church. She displayed a zest for life, living in her home until just before her passing. She cherished time spent in the company of those she loved, her family members and friends. Verda exuded warmth and compassion for others and always strove to meet life¹s challenges with a smile. She exemplified what it is to have a kind and giving spirit. Some of her passions in life were playing the piano, playing bridge with her friends, caring for her cats, and reading. Funeral services will be held at Delia United Church on Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006, at 11:00 AM; Rev. Travis Cannaday officiating. Interment to follow at Moutainview Memorial Gardens in Calgary. FRANK: Theresa (Terry) Valdine  February 18, 1943 - February 15, 2006

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Theresa (Terry) Valdine Frank. She is survived by William (Bill) Joseph Frank, her beloved soul mate of 43 years. She is also survived by children, Val, Brad (Brenda), and Ray (Kathleen); grandchildren, Chris, Michael, Robyn, and Kathryn; sisters, Starr (Robert), Kim (Lenard), Ang (Randy), Linda, and brother Jeff (Cindy). NEWMAN: Kenneth G.  1917 - 2006

The family of Kenneth G. Newman is saddened to announce his passing on February 15, 2006 at the age of 88.   Ken was born on August 29, 1917 in
Hand Hills, Alberta to pioneer parents Albert Newman and Florence McIntyre and raised in the Hand Hills and Craigmyle, Alberta. Following his father's early death Ken was raised by his mother and older siblings, Lyd and Ethel, leading to very close and enduring relationships. He led a varied and interesting life of many occupations from cowboy, mail deliverer, soldier, taxi driver, school custodian, chicken and cattle rancher to civic politics. Politics was his primary vocation in life, serving the public for over 30 years. He became a member of council and then mayor of Jasper Place. Following amalgamation with Edmonton, he successfully ran for alderman and continued his life of public service into retirement when he took an even
broader approach serving on the Provincial Planning Board for 12 years. He also served as President of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association. A lifelong interest in boxing led to service with the Edmonton Boxing and Wrestling Commission, valued friendships and the judging of many bouts of his favourite sport. All sports were of interest and Ken fished and hunted into the last year of his long and productive life. He is survived by daughter Sharon White (Dean) of Strathmore and son Ken H. Newman (Joan) of Calgary, former wife Alice B. 'Dolly' Newman, grandchildren Dena Annand (Ritchie) of Calgary and David White of Baden, Switzerland, Jenne Newman (Jae Planidin) of Calgary and Sara Newman of Calgary, and brother Don (Elsie) Newman of Calgary. Also survived by step-children Sandy and Kenny Askin, Donna and Chris Grey, Ginnie Richardson, all of Edmonton; and Lori Baker and Ken Baker of Vancouver; and step grandchildren, Holly, Greg and Hunter Mailo; Ginger, Darrell and Hope Friesen; Keri and Matthew Marano; Kyle and Jenny Grey; Melanie and Jill Richardson, all of Edmonton; and Ricky and Spencer Baker of Vancouver.  Ken was predeceased by his second wife Marian Richardson Newman in 1995, parents Albert in 1925 and Florence in 1987 and step-father Norman McRae, sisters Ethel in 1981 and Jenny in 2004, brother Lydston in 2006 and son Bryan in 1982. Funeral service will take place at St. Timothy¹s Anglican Church on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow on Thursday, February 23, 2006 at 2:00 PM. in Craigmyle, Alberta.
