BARNES: Chester Thomas George  January 13, 1930 - January 25, 2006

Chester Barnes long time resident of Drumheller passed away peacefully on January 25, 2006 at the Drumheller Health Center ­ Acute Care. Chester was born in York Township, Ontario on January 13, 1930.   Cheste's childhood and early adult years were spent in Ontario, however, in the 1950's he left Ontario and ventured out West.  Chesteršs love of the outdoors, a passion for horses and desire to always put in full day's hard work drew him into the farming / ranching industry, where he worked as a ranch hand.  Chesteršs work took him to many areas throughout southern Alberta; however, he eventually settled in Drumheller. Chester will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Kansus (James), son Johnny (Tammy), grandchildren Lauren, Logan, Lane, Teresca, and Jaylene, brothers Bill (Pat), Bruce (Marilyn), sisters Bernice (Walter), May (Fred), Joyce (Bill) and several nieces and nephews.  Chester is predeceased by his mother Etta, father George, and brothers John and Wayne. A memorial service was held at the Drumheller Cemetery on Tuesday January 31, 2006 at 11:00 am. If friends/family so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations in Chesteršs memory may be made to the charity of your choice. DOUGLAS: Alice Maude (nee Rieger)  1924 - 2006

Alice Maude Douglas passed away peacefully January 24, 2006 in Drumheller Continuing Care. Alice was born January 20, 1924, in Delia, AB to Christine and Thomas F. Rieger.  During her high school years, Alice played ice hockey, softball and helped edit the Delia High School yearbook while competing academically with her twin sister Evelyn.  The twins graduated with honours from Delia High School in 1942.  Alice and Evelyn then completed teacheršs training at the Edmonton Normal School where they played varsity fastball.  They continued their training during the next few summers at both the U of A and U of Victoria. Alice and Evelyn taught at a number of rural one-room schools in Alberta and often shared the same teacherage.  Alicešs first teaching position was at Hayfield School near Beaverlodge, AB.  This was followed by teaching positions at Rockyford Colony School, Majestic Lake School, Horseshoe Canyon School before moving to Calgary where she taught at Ogden School.  After 14 years of teaching, Alice retired to devote her life to her family.   She did some substitute teaching at Churchill School.  Alice was very proud of her students and delighted in following their accomplishments. Alice was an avid researcher and learner and she loved baking, collecting recipes, reading, letter writing, vegetable and flower gardening, bicycling, playing softball, walking, skating, current events.  Auntie particularly enjoyed the many road trips with Alister which took them to see the area surrounding Drumheller and much of Alberta, Saskatchewan and BC. Alice will be missed by her sister Louise F. Smith in Ottawa, ON and cousins in Germany and England as well as numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

Alice will also be missed by her niece Margaret Giles and family.  Alice will be intensely missed by her beloved nephew Stanley T. Bakgaard (Devra Rooney and Mia Maluchi of Portland, OR) and niece Wendy E. Bakgaard and her much loved nephew-in-law Tim Blumenschein of Calgary. Alice was predeceased by her dearly beloved husband Alister Douglas in 1996 and her beloved son William T. Douglas, her identical twin Evelyn M. Bakgaard, sisters Marguerite Dare, Violette Baskerville, Caroline (Bertha) Fraser, and her brothers Thomas F. Rieger II, Henry J. Rieger and W. C."Bill" Rieger. Alice's family extends their sincere gratitude to the wonderfully caring staff and volunteers at the Drumheller Continuing Care Centre for their tender loving care during Alicešs last years.  Thank you to Dr. Racz, Dr. Lister, H & H Optical and their staffs for their continued care and concern. Stan, Wendy and Tim thank all those who have been so caring and supportive to them over these past years. LACEY: Gordon

Mr. Gordon Lacey of Innisfail, formerly of Drumheller, passed away January 10, 2006 at the age of 76. Gordon is survived by his wife Norma (Ulsanden) of Innisfail, AB; daughters Jody Koeing of Medicine Hat, Wendy Lacey of Calgary, and Bert Lacey of Rosetown, SK. Interment was held at Riverside Cemetery in Eastend, SK on January 16, 2006.

SIDDON: Ron

A long time resident of Drumheller, Ron Siddon (Sid the Barber) passed away in the morning of January 31, 2006 at the Drumheller Extended Care Unit. Ron and Trudie were married in Drumheller on January 1, 1941, and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Ron operated Sid's Barber Shop from 1940 to 1990, being barber to many over the years. He was in his 87th year. A funeral service will be held in his memory at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 3, 2006 at St. Magloire's Anglican Church in Drumheller, with reception to follow. Trudie would like to invite all of Ron's many friends in the area to attend this special celebration of his life, at 2:00 PM. on Friday.

TODD: Christene Helen

Christene Helen Todd passed away peacefully at the Drumheller Hospital on January 29, 2006 in the loving presence of her family.  Christene was predeceased by her husband Mr. Frank A. Todd and her son Dr. Edmund Todd. She will be dearly missed by her family: granddaughter Zeta (Ayaz) Charania; great granddaughters Jenna and Aniqa. She is also survived by her brother Fred (Helen) Peterson; two special nephews Les Todd and Freddie Peterson; special nieces Fran Sterling, Terry Todd and several other special nieces. A doting wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Christene was a long-time resident of Delia.  She was highly regarded for her gardening and cooking skills. Christene's funeral will be held this Friday, February 3 at 2:00 PM. at the Delia United Church with Rev. Travis Cannaday officiating.  All are invited to the Community Hall in Delia following the service and interment for visiting and refreshments. TRACH: 'Betty' Henrietta Elizabeth (King)  1929 - 2006

"Betty" Henrietta Elizabeth (King) Trach was born November 28, 1929 in Delia, Alberta and passed away January 22, 2006. Her parents were Alice and Joseph Fulton. She was raised in the Delia area. Betty married Norman Cooper King. Betty and Norman had three children, JoAnne, Pat and Shelley. Betty is survived by her children JoAnne (King) and her husband Wayne Baird, Pat and Muriel King, and Shelley and Dale Morgan. Also surviving are her brothers Jim Fulton, Baxter (Alice) Fulton, Ken (Linda) Fulton; and sisters Isabelle (Bob) Sinclair and Marion (Alvin) Tario. Also surviving are her grandchildren Karen, Aaron, Patrick, Tom, Bob, Carly and Oliver and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Kelly Fulton. Betty was widowed and two years later married William Trach on July 27, 1968. They moved to Camrose and worked and lived there until they retired in Drumheller. After retirement they did some travelling and took numerous camping and fishing trips in the area. Bettyšs health had been poor for many years and was admitted to the Drumheller Nursing Home where she resided until she moved to the Didsbury Nursing Home to be closer to her children. Betty's funeral was held on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at 11 AM. in the Courtney-Winter's Chapel in the Valley and was officiated by Father Wayne Poile of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church of Drumheller. Special musical selections included "Amazing Grace" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" After the interment at the Drumheller Cemetery the family warmly welcomed everyone to join them at the St. Anthony's Parish Hall at 1:00 PM for a time of refreshment and fellowship.
