Archibald: Douglas (Doug)  1937 - 2005

Doug Archibald passed away peacefully at the Drumheller Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother Jack (Peggy) of Mirror, AB, Daun (Annette) of Delburne; and sister Joan Janzen of Drumheller; his eight nieces and nephews and their families; plus his extended family at the Youngstown home where he had resided for the past 24 years. While living there, Doug had a very special caseworker, Debbie Laughlin, who fulfilled his love of rodeo and hockey by taking him to rodeos in Las Vegas, Edmonton and others.  Doug was predeceased by his mother Rose (1998), brother Jim (1999), and brother-in-law Ed Janzen (1981). At Dougšs request a family graveside service will be held at a later date in Calgary at Mountain View Cemetery.

Fletcher: Esther Frances (Humphrey)  1915 - 2005

Esther Fletcher, age 89, passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital Extended Care Unit, Comox, B.C. on February 4, 2005. She was predeceased by her husband Alex in 1975 and two brothers, Arthur and Thomas. Esther is survived by one son, Bill, Campbell River, B.C., and three grandchildren. Dean resides in Whistler, B.C., Jason in Vancouver, and Milo in Duncan on Vancouver Island. Her great grandchild, Markus, is with his parents in Vancouver. Other surviving family members are brothers George, Leroy, Stan and Harry; and sisters Edna, Leora and Lillian. Esther was born on the Humphrey farm June 22, 1915. She attended high school in Drumheller and lived near and in Delia for many years. In 1952 Esther moved to Wynndel, B.C. Esther worked full time until age 78. She was a very capable manager employed variously by the Co-op store in Wynndel and Creston, Kozy Heating and Joy's Plumbing and Heating. She moved to Campbell River to be with her son Bill and Sheryl Fletcher in 2000. There will be a celebration of Esther's life in Delia on April 30, 2005 at 1 p.m. A brief service will occur at the cemetery followed by lunch at the town hall.

 

Garson: George William  1924 - 2005

George William Garson passed away peacefully on February 26, 2005 at Drumheller Continuing Care after being in poor health for several months. George was born September 14, 1924 at Conlin House - east of Rollie Leafs place on Ghost Pine Road. George took his schooling at Orkney and later a course at S.A.I.T. in Automotive Electricity. He was good at all electrical work and repairing
things. He could take a clock apart and put it back together and make it run. George was a farmer and often helped his mother in house and in the garden. George is survived by three brothers, Victor (Elsie) of Orkney, James of Drumheller, and Allen of Ponoka; sister Alice Moar of Orkney; brother-in-law Frank Huxley of Three Hills; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents James and Violet Garson, two sisters, a brother, and sister-in-law Marjorie Garson. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 3, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Courtney-Winter's Funeral Home in Drumheller. Memorial donations may be made to Orkney Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
 

Stevenson: Alba Rose (nee Onofri)  1912 - 2005

Alba Rose Stevenson (nee Onofri) was born in Antrodocco, Italy, April 1912 and emigrated to Canada with her parents Olimpia and Sabatino Onofri where they became a part of the pioneer Italian community in Drumheller. Alba's parents, a sister and brother were laid to rest at the Drumheller Cemetery. Alba Rose received her nurses training in Drumheller where she met her husband Bob Stevenson and they moved to North Vancouver where Alba worked for many years as a nurse at a Vancouver hospital. Alba passed away at home in North Vancouver, February 22, 2005. She is survived by her daughter Deborah and two grandchildren Christa and Danny of North Vancouver, also a loving niece Jillian of Caroline AB. Alba will also be lovingly remembered by her younger sisters, Dana, Caroline AB; Rita, Calgary AB; Serena, Denver CO; Aurora, Calgary AB; and eight nephews, John, James, Jerry, Jeffery, Jay, Kimber, Kerry, Uri, a niece Subrena and many good friends.  Alba lived her life to reflect these words and all that knew Alba smiled with her. We all Love and Miss you Mom. "Life is like a mirror, reflecting what you do, and if you face it smiling, it will smile right back at you."
