Gieck: Oscar John 1922 - 2005
Oscar John Gieck passed away June 3, 2005 in Calgary at the Peter Lougheed
Hospital. Oscar was born March 25, 1922 in Odessa, Russia. His family came to
Canada when he was five years old and settled for a short time in Carbon. The
family later moved eight miles west of Beiseker, where Oscar took most of his
schooling at Scotia School, two miles from the family farm. Oscar married Anna
Leah Kappes on May 2, 1948. Oscar and Anna farmed near Beiseker. Oscar enjoyed
playing Rook with family and friends. His attitude was always upbeat and he
enjoyed sharing jokes to lighten everyone's mood. He raised registered Hereford
cattle for many years as well as grain farming. His favourite part of the
farming was cattle, but as he got older, he grew to enjoy harvest most. Oscar
was predeceased by daughter Judith and wife Anna. He leaves to cherish his
memory sons, Greg (Carol), Randy (Susan), Terry (Kim); grandchildren Mark, Lorn
(Janet), Corey, Travis, Alisha, Adam, Megan; great-grandchildren Judith and
Theodore; sisters Erna (Elmer deceased), Elsie (Ed deceased), Violet (Walter
deceased); brothers Albert (Irene), Bill (Loretta); numerous nieces and nephews;
his church family, friends and neighbours. Funeral services will be held
Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church, interment followed in
the Zion Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the
Gideon's, or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Association. Courtney-Winter's
Funeral Chapel are in care of the arrangements.
