Dedul: Jacob (Jack) Peter  1926 - 2005

Jack, beloved husband of Blanche of Drumheller, Alberta passed away June 27, 2005 in the Drumheller Hospital at the age of 78. Jack will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Blanche, his two sons, Gordon and Robert, brother John, 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren along with many other family members and a multitude of friends.  Jack was born in Hanna, Alberta on July 7, 1926. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II. Jack worked on the oil rigs in Saskatchewan and Alberta until going into business for himself when he purchased Drum Auto Body. Jack's passion was water and he spent countless hours on the water either fishing, boating and water skiing. After retirement, Jack spent his time gardening and fishing and later in life picked up a new hobby when he purchased a computer. He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion
in Drumheller and enjoyed his time spent with old friends in the clubroom. A celebration of Jackıs life was held at Courtney-Winter's Funeral Chapel on Saturday, July 2, 2005 with Rev. James Clarke officiating. Interment followed in the Drumheller Cemetery. Courtney Winter's Funeral Home was in care of arrangements.

Grenville: Joan Dorothy  1925 - 2005

It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Joan Dorothy Grenville at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on June 22, 2005. Joan is survived by five daughters: Lynda (Stuart), Judy, Rita (Paul), Susan and Ruth; her sister Pat in England and her brother Ray in Ontario; and five grandchildren Debby, Michael, Regan, Timothy and Courtney.  She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence in 1972 and brother Ivan in 1977. She leaves behind many other loving family members and friends who will remember her strength and her support, a fondness for books and country music, as well a fine game of Scrabble.

Joan was born on December 6, 1925 in Ashford, Kent and worked in a nursery for children during WWII.  She met her future husband at a dance during the war and, after a short courtship, they were married. She arrived in Canada in March 1946 as a war bride and settled in the Morrin area, where her entry into Canadian culture was supported by the generosity and kindness of the local community.  She adapted quickly to life on the farm and became a mother shortly thereafter.  In 1960, the family moved back to England for a brief period before returning to central Alberta. In Innisfail, Joan and her husband operated a coin laundry for several years and then moved to Olds where she was actively involved with the Anglican church. In 1973, after her husbandıs death, she moved to Red Deer, where she worked and lived for the latter period of her life. Upon retirement, she enjoyed the new opportunity to travel with close friends. Joan was diagnosed with dementia in June 2000; she resided in several care facilities to receive treatment for this condition and was well looked after at Bethany Collegeside just before her passing.

The family would welcome donations to The Alzheimers Society (branch local to donors) in her name. A funeral service for Joan Grenville was held on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at St Lukeıs Anglican Church, 4929 ­ 54 Street, Red Deer, at 1:30 pm.  Sympathies can be forwarded to the family at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Holm:  Eric

Eric Holm, long time resident of Drumheller, passed away on June 28, 2005 at the Drumheller Health Centre at the age of 95. Eric is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Helen; by his sons Gordon (Leslie) and Stuart (Mary); by his daughter Barb (Barry); and by his grandchildren Rob, Jennifer, Johnathan Holm,  Rebecca and Sarah Martini, and Jeff and Angela Deane.

Eric was born in Finland and came to Canada at the age of two with his family, settling at Sicamous, B.C. He started his career at the Canadian Pacific Railway Hotel in Sicamous, and soon after worked at the Chateau Lake Louise and Palliser Hotel in Calgary. In 1942 he joined the Navy and spent the next three and a half years as Stoker Petty Officer on the mine sweeper Malpeque, convoying ships to England and later clearing the English Channel  of mines prior to the D-Day Invasion.

On March 26, 1945 Eric married Helen Hood in Calgary. They moved to Drumheller in July 1948, where Eric began his long career as a power engineer with Alberta Power Ltd. For numerous years Eric was an active member of the Navy League of Canada, Royal Canadian Legion and the Masonic Lodge.

Eric had many interests in life. These included: hunting and fishing with his sons and dog Freckles; spending time at their cabin on Shuswap Lake, B.C.; travelling to Vancouver Island to enjoy the ocean front and watch the cruise ships on the inside passage; and visiting the mountains in and around Canmore to enjoy the mountain scenery and lengthy trains. Eric was an avid reader, appreciating a good western, history books and keeping current by reading the Calgary Herald front to back. Most of all he enjoyed time spent with his family. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Doctors Olfert and Neffgen and the medical and nursing staff at the Drumheller Health Centre for their excellent care. Thank you also to the staff at Sunshine Lodge, where Eric lived this past year. A memorial service was held on June 30, 2005 with Rev. Jan Stevenson officiating. Thank you to the Navy League, Masonic Lodge, and Royal Canadian Legion members for the final Honour Guard. Hunter: May Margaret  1914 - 2005

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, May Margaret Hunter on July 3, 2005 in Drumheller.  May was born May 5, 1914 to Joseph and Agnes Adams in Burmis, Alberta.  At a very young age the Adams family moved to the Drumheller Valley.  May took all of her schooling here.  On May 4, 1935 May married Alfred B. Hunter.  They had three children, and May enjoyed being a homemaker and raising their children.  May was a member of the Catholic Womenıs League, choir member and a devoted parish member.  One of Mayıs passions was the game of bridge, and she belonged to a bridge club, she also enjoyed flowers, gardening and was a wonderful baker.  May loved to spend time with her family, and had a great sense of humour up to the end. "Good night and God Bless You Mom/Grandma" May leaves to cherish her memory son, Wilf (Paddy) Hunter of Drumheller, grandchildren, Jennifer Shaw, Christy Schmidt, Alf Hunter, great grandchildren, Sigourny Shaw, Pelly Shaw, Hunter Ann Schmidt, Christian Robert Schmidt, daughter, Elizabeth (Bren) Jones of Calgary, grandchildren, Bryn Jones, Jennifer Dorosh, Daniel Jones, great grandchildren, Clayton & Alexandra Dorosh, daughter, Mary Anne (Nelson) Vickers, grandchildren, Elizabeth Zacharuk, Camille Vickers, Erin Vickers, Cassandra Vickers, Blake Vickers, and Shawna (Monique); great grandchildren, Sydney, Peyton, and Cayden Zacharuk.  May was predeceased by her husband Alfred B. Hunter in 1982, mother 1969, father 1932, and brother James.  Prayer Vigil will be held July 7, Thursday evening at 7:00 P.M. from St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, funeral mass will be held Friday July 8, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. from St.Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, interment to follow in the Drumheller

Moore: Judith Ann (nee Dauben)  1945 - 2005

It is with great sorrow that we announce the loss of our dearly beloved wife and sister.  After many years of serious health problems, Judy died suddenly June 28, 2005, three months after open heart surgery. Born in Saskatoon in 1945, she taught school there before marrying Gerry on July 3, 1971.  Just short of 34 years ago, forming a life partnership to which she was deeply devoted.  Judy and Gerry lived in Saskatoon and Calgary, retiring to Drumheller in 2001.  They shared many happy times together despite her health challenges, which she faced with grace and courage, and without complaint.  Judy was a person of faith, bright and loving, with a quick wit and the gift of humor.  She will be greatly missed, as well, for her sense of fun and spontaneity, her writing ability, and her big heart. 

Judy is survived by her husband, Gerald Moore of Drumheller, sister Lois Dauben of Calgary and numerous other family members.  Judy was predeceased by her parents, Jerry and Rachel Dauben. The family would like to thank Dr. Liz Racz and staff  from the Drumheller Health Centre for their care and kindness. Funeral Mass was held Saturday, July 2, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. from St. Anthony's  Roman Catholic Church with Father Burke Hoshka as celebrant, interment followed in the Drumheller Cemetery.  Courtney-Winter's Funeral Homes were in care of the arrangements.

Mortensen: Helen Irene (nee Gagstetter)  1920 - 2005

Helen Irene Mortensen (nee Gagstetter) born January 18, 1920 in Excel, Alberta, died July 1, 2005 in Drumheller, Alberta. She will be missed but forever remembered by her loving husband of 59 years, Tom; her two children Corinne (Drydale) and Allen; her grandchildren Logan (Michelle), Tod (Pam), Ward, Niels and Julia; and by her great grandchildren Chase, Colten, Reese and Kenna; as well as by her extended family (Niels Mortensen, Joe and Rosa Merkel, and nieces Linda, Sandy, Diane, Arlene and Maureen and their families) as well as her many friends and neighbours. Helen was predeceased by her brother Dick (Richard), her mother Merle Gagstetter, a baby Dick (Richard) Mortensen, her father Elmer Gagstetter, her sister Glenna Harper and her son-in-law Don Drydale. Helen lived most of her life in or near the Drumheller Valley and loved the beauty of the Valley with its hills, river and abundance of wildlife. They moved to Rosedale when she was a young girl and that is where she met Tom. They were married in Drumheller on October 12, 1946. They moved to Dalum in 1957 where they farmed until they retired to Drumheller in 1976. Mom loved to sing and was a member of a choir most of her life. She was very proud to be a member of the Passion Play Choir for several years. Helen was a doer and so was an active worker in many organizations such as C.G.I.T. The Womenıs Institute, The Ladies Militia, The Dalum Friendship Club, the Drumheller Hospital Auxiliary, and the Pioneer Trail Centre. She believed in doing what she could to help others and enjoyed being part of organizations that catered to others. In addition to her many organizations she loved to garden and raise plants. She also loved animals and helped raise and care for many over the years. A Service of Remembrance will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at 2 p.m. from Knox United Church. Wilson: John Alan  1958 - 2005

John passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2005 at his home in Grande Prairie, AB. He was born September 27, 1958 in Drumheller, AB. John loved fishing, family gatherings, making stained glass, playing the guitar and singing. Most of all he loved the rodeos. John had many, many talents. As a young man he worked at a body shop. He loved to fix automobiles and anything else that was broken. He was an excellent tradesman. John worked in the oil industry for many years and recently was employed at a welding shop in Grande Prairie, AB. His dream was to own a motorcycle and go touring. John leaves to mourn his wife, Doreen; daughter Tammy (Aaron); sons Tyler and Travis. He was the proud grandfather of twins Emma and Deklan. He is survived by his loving mother Nancy Burns (Harry); and his siblings Mary Ann Uhrich of Drumheller, Penny and Lorne Lenfesty of Drumheller; Connie and Charles Money of Crossfield, Pat and Brad Ford of Edmonton, Frank and Darlene Wilson of Drumheller, Richard and Debra Wilson of Edmonton. He is also survived by his uncle Lawrence Cayenne and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his infant son, Trevor, May 19, 1989 and his father George in 1977. John will be truly missed by all of those who loved him most. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2005 at the Church of the Latter Day Saints in Midland.
