Berglund: Gerald Frederick
Gerald F. Berglund, 78, former resident of Drumheller and long-time teacher in
Fresno, California schools, passed away on August 23, 2005. He will be lovingly
remembered by his sister Irma Clark and her daughters Tannis (John) Wing, Wendy
(John) MacDonald, Elizabeth Clark, and her son Roger (Nicky) Clark; sister Doris
Wyber and her daughters Patti (Chris) Burton, Joanne (Robin) Walker, and her
son, Kim (Gwen) Smith; sister Gunnell Jorden and her daughter Kathryn (Brad)
Oliver. And by his sister-in-law Helen Berglund and her daughters Karen Cameron,
Kathy (Floyd) Lachapelle; and her son Scot (Evelyn) Berglund. Also by many
great-nieces, great-nephews, their children, and numerous friends in California,
Canada, Great Britain, and Poland. Gerald was predeceased by his brother Runo
Berglund in 1986 and his niece Marcia Olsen in 1996. Born in Drumheller,
Alberta, he was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene and was involved
in music, festivals, school choirs and church choirs. As a young man, he went to
the US to attend Pasadena College (now Point Loma Nazarene University),
graduating with a bachelorıs degree in English. He completed his master's
degree in education at Western Oregon University. Former students and friends
will remember his legendary study trips to the Shakespeare Festival in Ashland,
Oregon. A lover of music, he was chorus master of the Fresno Opera Association
and music director for several churches including College Community
Church-Mennonite Brethren where he served 19 years. Following retirement, he
taught literature for seven years at Nicholas Copernicus University in Poland.
Gerald will be remembered for his enthusiasm for life, his devotion to his
family, his love of music, and his passion for teaching. A memorial service
was held in Fresno, California, August 29, 2005. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to Point Loma Nazarene University, 3900 Lomaland
Drive, San Diego, California 92106.

Finkbiner: Melford Robert (Mel)
Melford Robert Finkbiner passed away suddenly at his home in St. Catharines,
Ontario on August 27, 2005 at the age of 65 years. Beloved husband of Angi;
loving father and grandfather of daughter Melanie (Robert) Petryk and their
children Anika and Austin: son Trevor (Tory) Haynes and their children Clayton
and Lauryn, daughter Melinda (Michael) Nodwell and their children Liam, Jack,
Madeleine, and Babes all of Calgary; step-sons Omar (Rania) Dogan of
Mississauga; Wesley Dogan of St. Catharines; brother of Bill (Lorraine)
Finkbiner and sister Holly (Kevan) Guterson of Drumheller, Alberta. He is also
survived by his sisters-in-law Dawn Finkbiner and Marion Finkbiner and his
parents-in-law Loda Bernardy and Fritz Bernardy, as well as many nieces and
nephews. Mel was predeceased by his parents Albert and Dorothy Finkbiner and by
brothers Ronald and Victor Finkbiner. He will be sadly missed by his many family
and friends. Funeral Service will take place on Friday, September 2nd at 1:00 PM
at Knox United Church, 195 3rd Ave East in Drumheller, with the Rev. Jan
Stevenson officiating. Interment to follow in The Drumheller Cemetery. A time of
fellowship will be held at the Drumheller Inn Banquet Room following the
interment. Donations may be made to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Hickey: Orlo Viola (Flett) 1915 - 2005
Orlo Viola Hickey (Flett) passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospital on
Thursday, August 25, 2005 at the age of 90 years. She was born in the Handhills
on April 10, 1915 to Lester and Mildred Flett. She took her schooling in the
Handhills. On October 17, 1945 she married Lawrence Hickey of Morrin, Alberta.
They resided in Morrin where Orlo was a hairdresser. At the age of 70 she
retired and she and Lawrence moved to Drumheller where they enjoyed their
retirement years. In May of 1993 Lawrence passed away. Orlo continued to live
in their home until 2002 when she moved to the Sunshine Lodge. She was
predeceased by her husband Lawrence, her parents Lester and Mildred Flett
(McDonald), brothers Elmer, Marvin, Ralph, Dale, Lloyd and Gordon and sisters
Olive Cosgrave, Mary McNabb and Ilene Courtney. Left to mourn her passing are
her children Bernadette (John) Edwards of Fairfax, VA and Gordon of Ponoka, AB,
her brother Orval of Handhills, AB, sister June (Leslie) Campbell of Calgary,
AB, sistes-in-law Aileen Flett and Jean Flett, Didsbury, AB; Bernadette
(Jacques) Vatin of Paris, France, Inez Hickey of Okotoks, AB and many nieces,
nephews and friends. She will be greatly missed. Prayer service was held
at St. Anthonyıs Catholic Church on Sunday, August 28 at 7:00 PM. Funeral mass
was held at St. Anthony's on Monday, August 29 at 11:00 AM. Interment was held
at Drumheller cemetery. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the
Sunshine Lodge in Drumheller, AB. Courtney-Winter's Funeral Homes were in care
of the arrangements.
