Fraser: Caroline 1920 - 2004
Caroline Fraser, our dear mother and bubbi (grandmother), made her crossing to
eternal peace on January 1. Remembered for her beauty, great soul and spirit,
intellect, kindness and generosity, Caroline will live on through her daughters,
Morna and Michele Fraser, cherished granddaughters Alyssa and Jillisa,
son-in-law Kevin Finn, and her former son-in-law, Marshall Hopkins. Caroline
was born in 1920 in Delia, Alberta to Thomas and Christine Rieger. She
will be deeply missed by siblings Violette Baskerville (Victoria), Bill Rieger
Sn. (Rockyford), Alice Douglas (Drumheller), Louise Smith (Cambridge, Ontario)
and many nieces and nephews. Caroline was predeceased by her former husband
Allon Fraser, her sisters Evelyn Bakgaard and Marguerite Dare, brothers Thomas
Reiger 11 and Henry Rieger, and nephew William Douglas. Caroline was a free
sprit, unconventional, and non-materialistic. Blessed with a brilliant mind;
her only truly valued possessions were her books. Her siblings remember that as
a child, after she had devoured all the literature in the house, Caroline became
absorbed in reading her way through the entire dictionary. In 1937, at the age
of seventeen, Caroline was awarded one of only two provincial scholarships
available to the University of Alberta. Caroline was gifted at mathematics,
fluent in three languages, and in her masters thesis, translated the German
philosopher Hegel into English. Caroline loved imparting knowledge and the joy
of learning and spent many years as a teacher. She did graduate work in early
childhood education and, after retiring, worked as a nanny. She was gifted in
working with young children, and they flourished under her natural spontaneity,
curiosity, and intuitive understanding. To her family and friends, Caroline
leaves the most precious and lasting of legacies: love that was freely and
generously given, true caring for humanity, and a love of knowledge, beauty,
truth, and justice. And now, the angels are singing sweetly. The stars are
clear and bright. Shine on Mom, shine on Bubbi. We'll love you forever. In
honour of Caroline, donations may be made to The Alzheimer Society of Canada
(for research) 20 Eglinton Avenue W. Suite 1200, Toronto, Ontario M4R 1K8
(1-800-616-8816). A private memorial will be celebrated. For information

Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at the age of 78. Iris was born in Hove, East Sussex,
England on February 27, 1925, the youngest of five children. She played the
piano in a musical family, as her father played the trombone professionally and
her sisters and brother played an assortment of instruments, including the
piano, trumpet, trombone and violin. If there was a piano around you could
usually find her tinkering on it. With the breakout of WWII, Iris' sisters'
Daisy and Lily worked in the forces, which left her at home to help her Mum run
the family pub. There she met Bernard David Morgan, an Ex-RCAF navigator, who
was working in the Merchant Navy. They married on March 20, 1948. They
immigrated to Canada in 1953, settling in Calgary and their only child, Sharon,
was born in the fall of 1954. Iris worked in Calgary for the Department of
Defense. They moved in Calgary in 1967, when Dave became the Works Officer for
the Drumheller Penitentiary. Iris got a job as the librarian at the Drumheller
Composite High School. After Sharon graduated from school, she worked as a
secretary for Canada Manpower. In 1974, Dave got transferred to the Bowden
Penitentiary and Iris got a job there, as a supervisor in the office pool. In
1983 they both retired and returned to Drumheller to be closer to their family.
Iris loved to knit, to play crib, and she devoted her life to the happiness of
her husband, daughter and later the grandchildren. After Dave passed away in May
of 1998, she moved in the Sunshine Lodge. She had a mini library there, and
loaned out her books for the residents and staff to enjoy. She will be missed.
Iris was predeceased by her husband, Dave, her parents, Alfred and Beatrice
Bidmead, her sisters, Daisy, Lily, and Joan, and her brother, Harold. She
