Anderson (Smith) Georgina (Jo) Mary July 29,
1934 - November 30, 2004
Georgina Mary (Smith) Anderson passed away November 30, 2004 in the Foothills
Hospital in Calgary at the age of seventy, with her children Tracy and Rick by
her side. Georgina (called Jo by friends and family) was born July 29, 1934 in
Carbon, Alberta to Katie and George Smith. After completing her schooling and
while employed at AGT in Drumheller she met a handsome man named Robert (Bob)
Cunningham Anderson, a man who would bring many years of happiness, love and
laughter and someone she would create many great memories with. Jo and Bob
began dating in December of 1954 and almost one year later were married on
November 26, 1955 at the Knox United Church in Drumheller. On September 11, 1956
their first son Richard Dale was born followed by David Robert on September 25,
1958 and finally a daughter Tracy on March 22, 1963 who completed their family.
While her husband Bob was employed with the Gas Company, Jo and their family
made several moves, but always made any house a home. They lived in Two Hills,
Rockyford, Hanna, Leduc, Morinville and finally back home to Drumheller, always
meeting and making many friends along the way. During this time both Jo and Bob
were involved together in many community events and organizations. Jo was a
dedicated 'full time' mom who always had time for her three children and their
activities, including hockey, figure skating and being involved with the
Morinville Drum and Bugle Band as all three kids were 'in the band.' Once the
kids were all grown and out on their own, Jo went back to work as a secretary
for Prasco and then to B&E Refrigeration in Drumheller. In 1982 once Bob took
early retirement, Jo decided to stay home also and spend some quality time with
her husband. Bob had always been Jo's 'rock' and after his passing on May 27,
1986 some of her spark was lost, although she always had her children and grand
children for love and support. Approximately 5 months after Bobıs passing
Georgina suffered a major stroke that left her confined to a wheelchair. After
trying to still live on her own for a while, Georgina eventually moved into the
Drumheller Nursing Home to receive the care she needed. In June of 2001 her son
Rick and grandson Chris moved her and her belongings to the Nursing home in
Hanna where she could be closer to her children. Her 'tell it like it was'
attitude, her smile and strength will be missed by all who knew her. Georgina
leaves to mourn: her son Rick and Deneen of Hanna and his children Christopher,
Melissa and Ashley; her daughter Tracy of Hanna and her children Lindsey, Jason,
Jennifer, Alisha and Jonathan; daughter-in-law Tammy of Pincher Creek and her
children Heather and Dustin; great grandson Alexander, brother Chuck Smith of
Onoway and sister Kathleen of Scotland. Georgina was predeceased by her loving
husband Robert, parents George and Katie, son David, sister Kathy and
granddaughter Nicole, and brother Malcolm Smith. Funeral services were
held at the Knox United Church in Drumheller on Saturday December 4, 2004 with
Rev. Stevenson officiating. The eulogy was given by Nick Helfrich, her brother
in law. Pallbearers were Chris Anderson, Jason McLean, Dustin Anderson, Larry
Helfrich, Tom Stokalko, Myron Kelm. Memorial tributes may be made to the HEART
AND STROKE FOUNDATION OF ALBERTA. Courtney-Winter's Funeral Home in care of the
arrangements.
