Appleyard: George  1916 - 2004

George Appleyard, husband, father, uncle, grand-father, and great grand-father passed away April 16, 2004 at the age of 88 years in the Three Hills Hospital.  He leaves to mourn his wife, Irene, his daughters, Sheri (Tim) Larsen, and Sandy Gebbie, his sons, Don Appleyard, and Doug (Beth) Appleyard, his daughter- in ­law, Sharon Appleyard, sisters-in-law, Simone Appleyard and Audrey Appleyard, grandchildren Troy (Rachelle) Appleyard, Jacqueline, Tyler, and Sheldon Appleyard, Brandi Godfrex, Austin, Brandon and Stephanie Larsen, and great grandchild Kenzie. Numerous nieces and nephews will miss George very much. He was predeceased by his first wife Patricia, his son Ian, his daughter -in law, Judy, and his grandson, Dana and his brothers, Jack, Joe, and Richard. George was born in the Carbon are and spent his entire life farming. He was a Commissioner at the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller where he was honoured and admired by all. He truly enjoyed contributing to the Legion and the community, which he loved. A Mass of Christian Burial was held, Tuesday April 20, 2004 at 10.A.M. in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Drumheller with Father Ian Gagne officiating. A luncheon was held at the Carbon Community Hall immediately following the service.  Burial was held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Calgary.  Donations may be made to the Legion Poppy Fund or donorıs choice. Arrangements were entrusted to Courtney-Winter's Funeral Chapel.

Blake: Douglas James

Douglas James Blake, WWII RCAF veteran and 40 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2004. He was predeceased by his loving wife Anne.  Doug is survived by his daughter Lynn Phillips (Ron Stuart) of Vancouver; his sister Anne Sled of Parksville; grandson Joel Phillips of North Vancouver; and nephews Greg Sled (Eileen) of Parksville and Scott (Paula) Sled of Nanaimo.  Doug will also be lovingly remembered by "The Beach Family" who were so very dear to him, Mrs. Hannelore Beach of Innisfail, her daughters Bettina (Kelvin) McGillivray of
Innisfail and Krista (Jeff) Loesch of Lacombe and also her son Gordon (Lynda Fraser) of Calgary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, #1200 College Plaza, 8215 - 112 Street, Edmonton, AB T6G 2C8. A special thanks to the nurses for their kindness at the Palliative Care Unit at the Innisfail Hospital. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 15, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Innisfail Legion.  Cremation has taken place.  Final resting place at Westlawn Memorial Gardens beside his wife, Anne.
