Birkhiem: Walter  1926 - 2003

It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Walter Birkhiem on October 15,  2003. Walter was born in Craigmyle, Alberta on February 21, 1926, the son of Henry and Louise Birkhiem. He is survived by his loving wife Mavis; son James; daughters Janice Schaan and Kathy (Bill) Danyluk; granddaughters Jamie and Robyn. Walter also leaves behind sister Freda (Ken) Brewitt and brother Jack (Iris) Birkhiem, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his parents Henry and Louise; and sister-in-law Mary Birkhiem. Walteršs family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of the Rimbey and Ponoka Long Term Care Centre for the special care they gave to Walter. Interment for the late Walter Birkhiem was held at the Delia Cemetery on Monday, October 20, 2003 at 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service from the Byemoor Hall at 2 p.m. An expression of sympathy, memorial contributions in Walteršs name may be made to the S.T.A.R.S. Friedley: Kenneth Ralph  1946 - 2003

Born on November 22, 1946 in Calgary, Alberta and passed away on October 18, 2003 in Delia, Alberta. Funeral Services will be held from the Delia Community Hall on Saturday, October 25, 2003 at 2 p.m.

Hassett: Kay (Henrietta Kathleen)  (nee: Burness)  1911 - 2003

Kay Hassett was born on August 27, 1911, in Wadena, Saskatchewan, one of five children. Kay attended Normal School in Regina and went on to teach school until marrying Walter Hassett. Kay and Walter lived in Saskatchewan until 1949 when they moved to Drumheller, bought City Dairy, and their home on 2nd Avenue. Kay eventually returned to teaching and taught Grade 5 in Drumheller for many years. She and Walter were very involved with the community including the Elks and the Royal Purple, the Rotary, and Knox United Church. Kay was predeceased by Walter, her loving husband of more than 65 years. She is survived and lovingly remembered by two daughters, Margaret Code and Sylvia Shaw (Gilbert); five grandchildren, Laura Grift (Gary), Donna Code Castillo (Rene), Linda Code, Sarah Shaw, Andrew Shaw; one great grandson Quetin Code (Shannon); and one great-great granddaughter Angelina Code. McCall: Elmer Clyde  1914 - 2003

Mr. Elmer Clyde McCall of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at the age of 89 years. Elmer was born on July 14, 1914 at Morrin, Alberta. He served his country in World War II, where he also met his wife to be, Helen, while in Britain. In 1945, Elmer and Helen returned to the family farm in Rumsey. They sold the farm in 1977 and moved to Warden, where they spent ten happy and productive years developing their acreage. Elmer and Helen then moved to Barrhead, where they spent their last years. Elmer will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered always in the hearts of his family and friends. Elmer leaves to mourn his loss, his loving children: Frances Richard) Osokin of Bluffton, Alberta, Miles McCall (Diana) of Calgary, Alberta, Susan (Douglas) Laundry of 100 Mile House, British Columbia and Thomas (Brenda) McCall of Red Deer; grand-children Michelle (Graham) Holwell, Leanne (David) DeRosa, Ryan McCall (Beverly), Colin McCall (Melinda), Robert McCall, Matthew Laundry, Kristy Jean McCall, Diana McCall, Katherine McCall; and great grandchildren Victoria McCall and Kaliegh McCall. He is also survived by a sister, Ida Netterville of Athabasca, Alberta, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Elmer was predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen, two sisters, Mabel and Edna, and three brothers, George, Lawrence and Charlie. A Celebration of Elmeršs Life was held at the Rumsey Community Hall, Rumsey, Alberta on Tuesday, October 21, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Rhonda Pigott officiating. Cremation entrusted to Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. McIlwrick: Lena  1912 - 2003

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Lena McIlwrick. Formerly of Drumheller, Lena spent the last 7 years receiving excellent care in the Didsbury Nursing Home. She is survived by her daughter Dianne (Dan), her son Gary (Carol), her grandchildren Marina, Murray, Dwayne, Dean, Richard and great grandchildren Stephanie, Zachary, Kyle, Evan and Todd. At Lenašs request, there will be no funeral. A private family memorial is planned.
