Watt: James Miller

On October 11, 2003, Jim passed away in Strathmore, Alberta. He was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) in September and spent the last month of his life visiting and reminiscing with his family and friends. Jim was a mischievous child while growing up in Rosebud. Many great escapades occurred there such as jumping on the train to get to Redland, upsetting the butter churn and turning horses loose. From all the stories Jim told, it's amazing he survived 71 years. Joining Jim in his younger adventures were his siblings, Edgar (June) Watt, Colleen (Joe) Julian, Shirley Pringle, Joy (Jerry) Whittaker, Dianne (Art) Taubert and Marilyn Watt. This left his father Bill (1899-1997) and mother Gladys (1905-1997) straightening out the messes. In 1958, Jim and Cec (Madsen) were married and moved to Standard. He continued to participate in baseball, hockey, card playing and many, many more adventures. Jim's sense of humor fooled many people - until they learned to recognize the teasing twinkle in his eye. Inheriting this trait are Jim's five children: Sheldon (Laurie) Watt, Dawn (Phil) Faubion, Traci (Mike) Rasmussen, Janelle (Rob) Pettifer and Tara (Adrian) Law; his eleven grandchildren: Tanner and Danika, Jennifer, Michelle and Marc, Kai and David, Raeanne and Cole, and Ethan and Kegan. Jim was very proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them. The Memorial Service will be held at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Standard on Thursday, October 16, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. In remembrance of Jim, no neckties please. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Society (Suite 400, 320 - 23 Ave. SW, Calgary, T2S 0J2) or to the Village of Standard Cremation Memorial Project. WHEATLAND FUNERAL HOME LTD. (Strathmore) in care of arrangements, 934-5666.
