Pugh: Larry Donald 1948 - 2003
Larry Donald Pugh passed away on June 20, 2003 at home in East Coulee at the age
of 54 years. Larry was born at the Drumheller Hospital on July 21, 1948, to
Howard and May Pugh the eldest of 5 children. Larry was raised in East Coulee
and after leaving school he worked for numerous ranches before gaining
employment in the oil and gas industry. Early in his life Larry started
building a cattle herd and eventually becoming self-employed as a custom fencer
and rancher. Larry was recognized for his knowledge of cattle and horses,
knowledge that he gained because of his independent nature. Larry was a fixture
as a wrangler at the Calgary Stampede Ranch and worked numerous rodeos
throughout the year that the Calgary Stampede was associated with. Larry was
predeceased by his father Howard, in 1990 and his sister Marilyn in 2001. He is
survived by his wife Pearl of 27 years, his sons Raymond and Jamie, his mother
May, brother Bob (Corinne), sisters Alice (Len) and Leona (Jamie), numerous
nephews, nieces, great nieces, numerous cousins; aunts, uncles, and a life time
of friends. A Service of Remembrance was held on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at 11:00
A.M. from the Knox United Church. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of
Larry may do so to the Drumheller Seniors District Foundation, 698-6 Ave. East,
Drumheller, AB, T0J 0Y3. Courtney-Winter's Funeral Chapel entrusted with the
arrangements.

Rowe: Helen (Higdon) 1934 - 2003
Helen passed away at the Nanaimo General Hospital on June 19, 2003 after a brief
illness. Helen was born in Cold Lake, Alberta and was raised in Nacmine,
receiving her education in Nacmine and Drumheller. She went on to Medicine Hat
to take her Nurses training which led her to her life in the Air Force as a
Flight Nurse. She travelled all around the world in this posting. She met and
married her husband Ron while in the Air Force. After leaving the Force they
spent most of their years in Burlington, Ontario until they retired to Fairwinds
at Nanoose Bay, B.C. five years ago. Helen is survived by her husband Ron;
daughters Susan (Mathew) and Shauna; her beloved granddaughter Anna; brothers
Mel (Irma), Irvin (Helen), Robert; and sisters Margaret Hubbs and Bunny (Dale)
Hecktor; sister-in-law Donna Kelly; mother-in-law Eva Rowe; and numerous nieces
and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her daughter Shannon; her mom and dad Gus
and Dorothy; brother Doug Higdon; and father-in-law Harry Rowe. Graveside
services at the Carbon Cemetery on Thursday, July 3 at 3 p.m. Reverend Harold
Hunter officiating.
