Anderson: Elsie Hinton 1920 - 2003

Elsie Hinton Anderson passed away on Friday, July 4th, just three days short of her 83rd birthday. Elsie is survived by her daughter Marron, her grandson Buckley, her brother Stanley and her son-in-law Layton. To say that she will be missed is the understatement of understatements. Her brother paid her a visit three weeks ago from Wales, Great Britain. Elsie was born in Wales in a small coal-mining village called Blaengwynfi. Elsie was an extremely private person all her life. Whilst, on holidays in Canada she met and fell for her late husband Robert Lawson Anderson. Elsie had a passion for one sport and that was Tennis.  She was a formidable and fearsome competitor on the court. Just about all her life she did not miss either listening to or watching the Wimbledon tennis championships. Elsie actually passed away peacefully whilst watching this years

Buchta: George 1902 - 2003

George Buchta passed away peacefully at his home, July 5, 2003 at the age of 101 years.  He is survived by his son John, 4 cousins of Calgary, Irene, Millie, Anne and Molly, as well as numerous family members and friends and all the children that played on his farm since 1926.  George was predeceased by his wife Mary on April 13, 1985 and son Martin who served with the US Army,  in April of 1987.  George was a coal miner, farmer, rancher and also served in the First World War as a machine gunner.  A Memorial Service will be held at the Midland Community Hall, 113 - 1 Ave. N.W., Drumheller, AB on Friday, July 11 at 11:00 am. Duncan: Lorna Irene 1925 - 2003

Lorna Irene Duncan of Stettler, Alberta, known as Irene, passed away in Red Deer, Alberta on Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at the age of 77 years. Irene was born to Charles and Pearl Liddicoat in Port Arthur, Ontario on October 14, 1925.  She was raised in Leslieville and Munson areas.  Irene married Robert Henry 'Happy' Mepham and they settled in Drumheller where they raised a family of 7 children, Carol, Ron (Wendy), Cliff (Lynn), Brad (Anita), Arla, Blaine (Barb) and Clint.  In 1981 she married Jack Duncan and moved to Stettler.  Her family now included Jackıs three boys, Grant (Elaine), Roy (Terri) and Ken (Cindy).  They have resided in Stettler until her passing. Irene was active in the Royal Purple where she held several positions including Honored Royal Lady.  She loved to knit and sew and belonged to several craft and womenıs clubs where she exchanged and shared ideas on her hobbies.  Jack and Irene belonged to the Pioneer Acres Antique Club where they volunteered and will be remembered as the bun makers. Predeceased by husband Robert Henry ³Happy² Mepham; son Clint; and 2 sisters, Verna (Wilf) Barabe and Hazel Harrison; Irene is survived by husband Jack; her children; grandchildren, Lauralee, Brett and Alanna, Carrie and Robbie, Tina, Deanna, Jesse, Calvin and Travis, Kimberly, Vince, Luke and Logan, Cheyenne, Crystal and Jason, Kaylin, Kody and Kendra; great granddaughter Hannah Jade; brothers, Orville (Rena) and Earl (Gail) Liddicoat; sister-in-law Dorothy (Roy) Gilbert; brother-in-laws Ron (Mary) Duncan and Don Harrison; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Irene will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services were held in The Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home, Stettler, Alberta, on Friday, July 4, 2003 with Rev. Harold Hunter officiating.  Organist, Mrs. Elaine Hennel, played for the congregational hymn 'One Day At A Time.'  Musical tributes were performed by Rev. Hunter who sang 'In The Garden' and Mrs. Evelyn Shursen who sang 'Hearts That We Have Treasured.'  Granddaughter, Tina Mepham read a poem for her grandmother and Ron Mepham presented a tribute.  The Royal Purple of Canada Fraternal Service was performed by members of the Stettler Lodge #60 who also acted as the Honor Guard.  Active Pallbearers were Irene and Jackıs sons, Cliff, Brad and Blaine Mepham, Grant, Roy and Ken Duncan.  Interment followed in the Lake View Cemetery, Stettler, Alberta. Following the service family and friends gathered in the Heartland Fellowship Hall for a time of sharing and light refreshments prepared and served by the members of the Royal Purple of Canada, Stettler Lodge #60. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, The Canadian Cancer Society or the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation, c/o Stettler Funeral Home. Gaunce: Ralph Gordon

Ralph Gordon Gaunce of Drumheller, Alberta, passed away at the Drumheller Continuing Care Facility on Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at the age of 101 years.  He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Beverly Lane of Didsbury, one grandson Cambell and one great-grandson, Dylan Lee; as well as his brother Frank of New Brunswick.  Ralph was predeceased by his wife Elsie. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at 2 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, a memorial tribute in Ralphıs name may be made directly to the Drumheller Continuing Care Facility (351 - 9th Street N.W., Drumheller, Alberta, T0J 0Y1).  Arrangements entrusted to MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME, CEMETERY AND CREMATION CENTRE, 17 Avenue S.E. at Garden Road, (1.5 km East of 84th Street S.E.)  Telephone 403-272-5555.

Jensen: Arild Arnold 1921 - 2003

Arild Arnold Jensen passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 2, 2003 at the Drumheller Hospital with his family at his side. Arild was born in Kimbalton, Iowa on February 22, 1921 to Albert and Anna Jensen.  At the age of six he and his family moved to Dalum where he rode his horse to Blue Spring School.  After Blue Spring he attended the Olds Agriculture College. In 1940 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and trained as an air- frame mechanic. Arild married Glenys Price on June 23, 1943 and after his war service they bought the Bragg Ranch at Dalum where they farmed until retirement to Drumheller in 1993.  Arild took up residence in the Continuing Care Unit of the Drumheller Hospital in April of 2002. Arild is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Glenys, his sons Larry and Arild Jr.  (Ann), daughter-in-law Marlene Jensen, grandchildren Parry (Leah) Jensen, Shawna (Joe) Castonguay, Jon (Shawna) Sheppard and Kent (Nicole) Jensen, and great-grandchildren Jadeon and Connor Sheppard, Tenlee Jensen and Cort Castonguay, brothers Herluf Jensen and Ove (Edie) Jensen, sister Gerda (Folmer) Rasmussen, numerous nieces and nephews and 'Duffy.'  He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Anna Jensen, sister-in-law, Marie Jensen and grandson, James Sheppard. Arild lived by the following:  God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. Funeral Services were held for Arild at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Dalum on  Saturday, July 5, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Kevin Scott and Pastor Wayne McCrackin officiating.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Continuing Care Unit of the Drumheller Hospital or the charity of the donors choice.
