Eva Alberta Schowalter (Carter) was born July 1, 1918 at Manyberries, Alberta, to Ernest and Mary Carter.  Eva was raised in the Hayter area and in 1944 met the love of her life, Walter Schowalter.  They were married November 6th of that same year and shared 58 1/2 wonderful years together. They lived in Hayter, Rumsey, Tilley and Big Valley before making their final home at the Willow Creek Lodge in Stettler. Eva enjoyed a lengthy career as an elementary school teacher.  It was not uncommon, even in recent years, for former students to come and visit Eva - evidence of a truly gifted and memorable educator.  Eva also enjoyed her dedication to the United Church and the United Church Women, gardening, volunteering with many organizations including the Superfliuty and Big Valley Historical Society, and of course, garage sales. Eva loved to talk and laugh and she lit up any room that she walked in to. Her energy and obvious enthusiasm for life were an inspiration for all of us. Evaıs greatest love was her family and she is mourned by her beloved husband, Walter; her loving children, Ed (Inge) of Halkirk, Mary (Mike) of Tofield, Tim (Laraine) of Michichi, Margit (Grant) of Kingman; cherished by her grandchildren, Bill (B.J.) of Rumsey, Angela (Richard) of Stettler, Quinten (Leigh Ann) of Botha and Peep (Ken) of Stettler; as well as 11 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her dear sisters, Ruth (Rudy) of Forestburg and Irene (Bob) of Strome as well as her brothers Bill and Leo (Alice) all of Provost. Eva was predecease by her parents, Ernest and Mary, as well as her brother, James. Funeral services for the late Eva Alberta Schowalter were held in the Big Valley United Church, on Saturday, July 12, 2003 at 2 p.m. with Lori Gordon officiating.  A tribute was given by Allan Johnston.  The congregational hymns were 'Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah' and 'Praise To The Lord Almighty,' accompanied by organist Marguerite Kerbes.  Soloist Alana (Carter) Danyliw sang 'Amazing Grace'.  The internment followed the funeral service in the Big Valley Cemetery. Family and friends then gathered together in the Big Valley Drop In Centre for a time of fellowship and sharing with the luncheon prepared and served by the Big Valley U.C.W. and the Big Valley Seniors Club. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in Eva's memory to the Big Valley United Church or to the Canadian Red Cross Society.
