DOUGLAS:
Karen June 1947 - 2002  Karen June succumbed to her battle with cancer, December 3, 2002.  Karen was born December 7, 1947, Regina, SK.  She was the first daughter of Robert (Bob) and Emily (Millie) Douglas.  Karen received her teaching certificate from Regina Teachers College.  Her first teaching position was at Indian Head High School, Indian Head, SK followed by Thom Collegiate High School in Regina.  Karen married her grade 12 graduating escort, Douglas W. Griffith in Regina, 1971.  Karen and Doug made their first home in Kamloops, B.C., where they both taught high school.  In 1974 their first and only child was born, Tyler Douglas.  In 1976, the young Griffith family moved to Drumheller, AB, where Doug taught and counselled in the high school and Karen managed the Drumheller Chamber of Commerce for two years.  For the next several years, Karen successfully operated a business service. She returned to teaching once again, and for the next ten years, Karen coordinated and taught for Olds College.  As well as being an accomplished pianist, Karenıs interests in gardening and renovating began with Doug and continued with her second husband Reginald E. Gouldie.  Karen and Reg purchased and developed a four room school house in the ghost town of Rowley, AB.  In 1992 Karen and son Tyler moved to Red Deer, AB to complete Tylerıs education.  In the years to follow, Karenıs experiences and talents led her to work with a newspaper; a hiring assessment center; and even a flower shop.  Over the past 18 years Karen was able to spend some of the winter months in Mesa, AZ where she established some wonderful friendships. She is predeceased by her first husband, Doug - July, 1983; her father, Bob - September, 1990; and her second husband, Reg - September, 1998.  Karen leaves behind with saddened hearts, her mother Millie Douglas of Dinsmore, SK; her son, Tyler Gouldie (Jennifer) of Red Deer, AB; her twin granddaughters, Delanie and Morgan; her sister, Donna Hawrylak (Mark) of Candle Lake, SK; several dear aunts, uncles and cousins; her nieces and nephews:  Paul, Bree, Lisa, Nicole, and Sterling, whom she enjoyed watching grow up; also many Canadian and American friends.  In lieu of flowers, friends and relatives, if they so wish, may donate to the Canadian Diabetic Assoc.  The family would like to thank Dr. Veisse and nursing staff at High River Hospital for their kindness.  Arrangements for cremation have been carried out by Snodgrass Funeral Home, High River, AB.  Personal wishes to have no service, internment at Dinsmore cemetery, Dinsmore, SK.

ELLIOTT: Hester Jane 1912 - 2003 Hester Jane Elliot, born on September 5, 1912 in Dalmeny, Saskatchewan, passed away on January 15, 2003 at the Drumheller Hospital, at the age of 90 years.  She was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 1982, a brother John and sister Ann (Nancy). Left to cherish her memory are her 5 children; Audrey (Ron) Russell of Saskatoon, SK, Charles (Pat) Elliot of Lillooet, B.C., Evaline (Stan) Riley of Camrose, AB, Gwen (Lyle) Nickason of Wiseton, SK, Clara (Cliff) Martin of Eckville, AB, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Jane was a lifetime member of the Order of the Royal Purple, a member of the I.O.D.E., and an active member of the United Church Womenıs Hospital Auxiliary.  Jane and her husband Gordon ran the Singer Sewing Centre and later owned and operated the Bluebird Dry Cleaners.  Jane also worked at the Fossil Museum in downtown Drumheller.  They moved to Drumheller from Calgary in 1960 and enjoyed many friends in and around Drumheller since then.  She spent her last few years at the Sunshine Lodge.  She will be sorely missed by all. Funeral Services were held at Courtney-Winterıs "Chapel of the Valley" on Monday, January 20, 2003 at 1 p.m.  Graveside Service to follow at the Drumheller Cemetery. HOWARD:  John 'Vincent', beloved husband of Ruth for sixty years, passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital on January 17, 2003 at the age of 91 years.  Besides his loving wife, Vincent is survived by his children, Winnifred MacLean, Allen (Gayle), Lyle, Noel (Roger) Bru, Neil; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as numerous other relatives.  Vincent and Ruth farmed in the Rainbow area east of Drumheller until 1972, when they relocated to the Calgary area.  Memorial Services will be held at Red Deer Lake United Church, Highway 22x West of Spruce Meadows and 37 Street on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at 2 p.m. with Rev. MARTIN: Raymond Michael 1929 - 2003 Raymond Michael Martin of Rosebud passed away peacefully at the Drumheller Hospital on January 15, 2003 at the age of 73 years.  He is united once more with his beloved wife Eileen, who passed away in 1998.  He is survived by his sons Jim Martin, Rosebud, and Tim (Sheila) Martin, Hanna; his daughters Tamra (Greg) House, Calgary, and Kim Martin (JW Crocker), Calgary; his sisters Joan (Wally) Jensen and Betty (Rees) Jenkins; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, two special grandkids, and a number of nieces and nephews.  Raymond is predeceased by his parents John and Millicent Martin, his brother Deane and his sister, Rosemary. Raymond was born in Drumheller March 6, 1929 and farmed on the Martin farm in Rosebud his entire life.  He grew up surrounded by lifelong friends, a loving family and a sense of history.  One of his proudest moments was in November, 2000 when the Honourable Shirley McClellan, MLA presented a Century Farm and Ranch Award on behalf of the province to the Martins in recognition of the 103 years that the family had farmed the same piece of land.  Raymond, or Michael as he was also known, had a fun loving personality and an infectious smile which won over many, old or young.  He also had  a deep love and respect of the land and never wanted to be away from the farm for very long.  He did make a number of short trips to Nevada, British Columbia and Ontario, but two trips he always remembered most fondly were when he and Eileen went to Australia and Singapore, and when they went on a Palm Springs golfing excursion with Tam and Greg and Raymond experienced his first earthquake.  It is difficult to sum up a personıs life in a few words, but Raymond said it best himself when he said that he wasn't perfect, but he had a good life. POTTER: Helen 1912 - 2003 Helen Grace Potter, (nee Barlow) passed away peacefully at the Wentworth Manor on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at the age of 90 years.  She was born in Springhill, Nova Scotia, May 16, 1912.  The family moved to Drumheller in 1921.  Helen completed her schooling at Crescent Heights High School, Calgary, in 1931 and graduated from the Calgary General Hospital as an RN in 1935.  She returned to nurse in the Drumheller area and met and married Albert Thomas Potter in 1938.  Helen is survived by three children; Albert Glenn Potter (Orma), Penny Ann McDonald (Terry) and Gordon Ernest Potter; three grandchildren; Colleen M. Potter, Tannis and Troy Renneberg, two great grandchildren and one sister Marion Powell (Ken).  She was predeceased by her husband Alberta, four sisters and two brothers.  In Drumheller, music, church, family and friends were always a vital part of the lives of Helen and Albert.  They moved with their children to Calgary in 1958 and were active in Northminster and St. Thomas United Churches.  Helen became interested in helping young children and was instrumental in organizing the Foster Parents Association in Calgary.  Working with members of the provincial government Welfare Services Department, she helped to establish numerous associations throughout Alberta and was the founding President of the Provincial Foster Parents Association.  Helen moved to Wentworth Court in 2001.  The family would like to thank the staff at Wentworth for all the care and kindness they showed her during the last two years and especially during this last year.  A Memorial Service was held at Grace Presbyterian Church in Calgary on Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at 2 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grace Presbyterian Music Scholarship Fund, C/O Grace Presbyterian Church, 1009 - 15th Ave. S.W., Calgary, AB, T2R 0S5. SOBOLESKI: Doug 1958 - 2003 Doug Soboleski beloved son, brother and treasured friend was born on May 6, 1958, in Drumheller.  He passed away at the age of 44 in Sherwood Park on Friday, January 17, 2003 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He is predeceased by his older brother Bill.  He is survived by his treasured, long-time friend Dawn Kelly, Bill and Irene Soboleski (parents), sisters: Kathy (Mel) Fowler, Carol (Richard) Bahry, Christina Soboleski, Brothers: Don (Carol) Soboleski, Mike (Dana) Soboleski, John (Ginette) Soboleski, Rob Soboleski. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews; Charmain (Chad and son Tristan) Thurlow, Vanessa and Sean Bahry, Hayden and Austin Soboleski, Brady
and Indiana Soboleski, Katelyne Soboleski.  He is also survived by his aunt, uncles and cousins as well as many friends. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, January 21 at St. Anthonyıs Catholic Church and Interment was held at the Drumheller Cemetery.
