Castelli: Maria 1926 - 2003

Maria Castelli passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Intercare Southwood Care Centre in Calgary on Wednesday, August 6, 2003. She was born on August 14, 1926 in Corbin, BC and at the age of six weeks moved to Drumheller with her parents.  After completing high school in Drumheller, she attended U of A, graduating in 1948 with a B. Sc. in Home  Economics.  The major portion of her career was spent at the General Hospital as Assistant Director of Dietetics and Special Projects.  She retired in early 1985 after thirty-three years of service. She is survived by her sister-in-law Rosemarie Castelli of Dallas, TX; nieces, Teresa Castelli of Los Angeles, CA and Dr. Elizabeth Castelli of New York, NY; and cousins, Gena Luvisotto, Dorina and Harry Stech, and Mario and Lynne Miglierina, all of Calgary; and numerous second cousins.  Maria was predeceased by her parents, Giovanni and Santina Castelli; and her brother Lou. A Memorial Mass was  held at St. Ceciliaıs Catholic Church (321 ­ 90 Avenue S. E., Calgary), on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Deering: Mrs. Lizzie 1914 - 2003

Mrs. Lizzie Deering was born on September 4, 1914 at Thelma, Alberta passed away on Wednesday, August 6th, 2003 at the age of 88 years. Lizzie is survived by her children Harold James (Marjorie) Deering of Trochu, AB, Norman (Elsie) Deering of Rumsey, AB, Betty Marshall of Olds, AB, Diane (Alan) Parry of Calgary, AB, Brenda Foesier of Calgary, AB, son-in-law Ed Larson of Irvine, AB, grandchildren Tony Deering of Calgary, AB, Stephen (Laurel) Deering of Rimbey, AB, Sheldon (Stacey) Deering of Calgary, AB, Rhonda Deering of Calgary, AB, Dawn Cassidy and husband John Baird of Stettler, AB, Darrel (Debbie) Marshall of Calgary, AB, Koreen (Marvin) Morrison of Olds, AB, Neal Marshall of Olds, AB, Gordon (Rae) Parry of Calgary, AB, Michele (Blaine) Hollinger of Calgary, AB, Garet Foesier of Calgary, AB and Corry Foesier of Calgary, AB. While Lizzie lived in Rumsey she was an active curler, worked on the History Book, a member of the Rumsey Drop In Centre, liked gardening and participated in the annual garden show. She belonged to the Legion, and enjoyed playing bingo, cards, shuffle board, doing cross word puzzles, she was very fond of music. Lizzie was very proud of her family. Lizzie and August moved to Rumsey in 1955 where she resided until 1987 when she moved to Stettler into the Parragon Place. She lived there until May 2003 when she went into the Stettler Nursing Home. Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Lizzie Deering were held at the Brennen Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, August 11th, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. Mackie: George

George Mackie of Drumheller, beloved husband of Dorothy Mackie, passed away suddenly August 11, 2003 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary surrounded by his family. George will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, 2 daughters and one son and their families, Bev & Stan Schultz, Carmen Schultz, Kim & Mike Niemans; Barb James & Jerry Ingham, Jason & Lisa James, Spencer James, Justine & Daryl Kay, Jared James & Kim Dunn, Jaclyn James; Ron & Brenda Mackie, Brianna, Kara & Melissa Mackie. He is also survived by 3 sisters, Louise McDonald, Helen Chitwood and Audrey Lanphere. George was proud of his family and treasured his time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchild. He enjoyed watching them grow up and hearing about their exploits. George enjoyed nothing more than a challenging crib game or a pool game with his family and friends at the Pioneer Trail Centre and working tirelessly for the benefit of others. George lived in the Drumheller Valley his entire life after returning from overseas having spent 4.5 years serving in the Second World War. He enjoyed a 35 year career with Alberta Power Ltd.( ATCO Electric) until his retirement in 1982. George enjoyed his years avoiding Alberta's winters in Yuma, Arizona and spending his summers at Pine Lake with friends and family. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 16 at 2:00 pm at Knox United Church in Drumheller. Olsen: Jane Ruth

Jane passed away to be with God on August 7, 2003 at the age of 43. Beloved wife of Bernard, loving Mom of Katie and Logan.  Cherished daughter of Ruth and Stewart Langford of Bradford, Ontario.  Dearist sister of Paul, Judy and her husband Peter Sawczuk.  Lovingly remembered by her mother and father-in-law; Marion and Leonard Olsen. Dear sister-in-law of Patricia and Randy Zilinski, Judy and Norm Kneeshaw, Holly and Scott Leaf.  Jane had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, Greg, Christina, Jenna, Melissa, Thomas, and Celia. Jane will be greatly missed by her family, friends and community.  She was dedicated to us all.  With special thanks to the Drumheller Hospital, Acute Care staff for their support and kindness. Services were held at the Morrin Community Hall on Monday, August 11, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. interment followed at the Morrin Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the Morrin United Church or to the charity of ones' choice. Pollom: Alfred Roy 1931 - 2003

Alfred Roy Pollom of Drumheller, Alberta passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on August 5, 2003.  Alf is survived by his wife Marion; brother Gerald; daughter Jackie; son Allan (Susan); daughter Agnes (Richard); and his beloved dog Boots.  He also leaves behind his grandchildren Michelle, Allan, Raelene, Richard, Riley, Jessica and Anna, all who loved him beyond words.  Alf was predeceased by his father Lawrence and mother Agnes Pollom, as well as his brothers Ray, Ken and Frank Pollom. Alfred was born at the Daysland Hospital on December 14, 1931 to a farming family.  He grew up with a love for animals, a love of farming and a desire to work.  After farming for several years Alf moved on to become a roughneck and eventually a consultant / engineer for various companies in the oilfield industry. Alf shared with his family a passion for antiques, a love of flowers and an appreciation for life of all kinds.  It is difficult to describe how much we will miss him. Rest easy husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.  We love you, we miss you and we will remember you always. A celebration of Alfredıs life was held at the Drumheller Elks / Falcon on August 9, 2003. Donations can be made to the following:  Canadian Cancer Society or Calgary Humane Society.    33p
