Pugh: Edna Pearl Pugh of Dorothy, Alberta passed away suddenly on January 22, 2002 at Yuma, Arizona at the age of 79. Edna (nee McLeod) was born in Parkhill, Ontario in 1922 the third of nine children. In her youth she worked for the Robarts family whose son later became Premier of Ontario. Edna also was in the Air Force serving as a truck and ambulance driver. She met and married Ed Pugh in London, Ontario and then in 1943 they moved to Alberta. She and Ed took up ranching at Dorothy raising horses and cattle. In fact their holidays for many years thereafter were packing up the kids and going to the Calgary Stampede where Edna loved to meet and socialize with people from all over the country who gathered at the rodeo. She was also very active in the Dorothy community with her special project being the maintenance of the Dorothy park and museum. Edna served as Postmistress for Dorothy for more than 15 years. She also enjoyed a variety of activities: tending her large vegetable garden, fishing for trout in the nearby fishing holes, playing bingo with friends, and playing "the slots" whenever she traveled near a casino, where she frequently came away a winner. She looked forward to their yearly winter trips to Yuma, Arizona where she and Ed were an active and vital part of the community, making many good friends there over the years. Edna was always welcoming to whomever would drop by. Friends and neighbours knew there would always be a cup of coffee, good conversation and even room for an extra plate at her table. Edna was well known for her cooking, especially her pies. In fact, she won first prize at the Hanna Rodeo Pie Baking Contest in the fall of 2001. Above all, her large family was a central part of her life and she always made time for each and every one of them. Edna is survived by her loving husband, Ed, and her children and their families: Barry (Donna) Randall from Ottawa and their children - Karen, Jay and Jeff; Linda (Ron) Miller from Chinook and their children - Darcy (Kathy), Rhonda (Kelly), Janice, Tanis, Roxann, and Rocky; Norman Pugh from Dorothy and his children - Tina (Craig), Theresa and Tammy; Carl (Milly) Pugh from Claresholm and their children - Brian, Stacie, Nikki, and Breanna; Joan Pugh from Hanna; and by her 11 great grandchildren. She will also be greatly missed in Ontario by her brother Simon (Lorraine) McLeod and sisters Hazel (Roy) Broad, Pat (Joe) Fuller, and Florence Siddall; and by her many friends and neighbors. Edna is predeceased by her son-in-law Ken Campion, her daughter-in-law Su Randall and granddaughter Tanya Pugh, and in Ontario by her brothers David Emerson and Lindsey McLeod and sister, Edith Babcock. Stubbert: Joan Stubbert, beloved wife of Barry Stubbert of Calgary, passed away surrounded by her loving family at her home on Sunday, February 3, 2002, at the age of 55 years, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Besides her loving husband of 35 years, Joan is survived by her daughters: Sheri (Patrick) Anderson and Tobi (Christopher) Hannah and her grandson Colby Anderson. Joan will also be lovingly remembered by her father Clarence Guynn and her brother Allen Guynn. She was predeceased by her mother Vivian Guynn. Joan was born on October 1, 1946 in Drumheller, Alberta and she grew up on her family farm near Carbon, Alberta. We watched you suffer, We heard you sigh, All we could do was stand by. For when your time came, We suffered too, You never deserved, All you went through. God took your hand, From our hands you part, He released your pain, But broke our hearts. We think of you in silence, We will often speak your name, All we have are memories, And your picture in a frame. We know you will always live on through us, Although our hearts cannot see, Why God needed you so soon, We understand in His arms you will be. A special thank you is extended to Dr. Jain, Dr. Reuther, Dr. Pickering and Dr. Smith and the nursing staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre as well as the caring nurses whom Joan grew very close to before her passing: Sonja, Carla, Pauline, Sandra and Carol. Thank you so much to our cousin Sharon Smith who lovingly came to our home and gave her time and compassion to help our family in so many ways. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Alliance Church (1201 Glenmore Trail S.W.) on Friday, February 8, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. with the Pastor Ray Matheson officiating.
