Cameron: Rosemarie (Rose) Cameron of Popkum, B.C. passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2002 at the age of 51 years old after a valiant battle with lung cancer. Rose was born on September 13, 1950 in Edmonton, Alberta. She grew up in Drumheller, Alberta and eventually moved to Sparwood, B.C. She was employed for 20 years with Westar Mining until the mine closure. She returned to school where she earned her Human Services Worker Certificate from EKCC. For the past six years, Rose was employed at Mountain Institution as a Correctional Officer. Rosie loved to travel and was fortunate to visit Fiji and the Barbados. She loved to save change and collect coins. She lived life to the fullest and savored her favorite vices. She loved her pets and her electric Menagerie of roosters. She spent many enjoyable hours watching the birds and the Para gliders from her kitchen window. Those left to mourn her passing include many friends, colleagues and acquaintances. From her family she leaves to mourn her common law husband Ken Pede, her mother Linda Mucci of Drumheller, Alberta, her daughter Melissa Cameron, her son-in-law Steve Cameron and her grand daughter Alexandra Cameron, all of Drumheller, Alberta. She also leaves to mourn two aunts and their families. A celebration of Roses' life was held on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Henderson's Funeral Chapel in Chilliwack, B.C. If friends so desire, donation may be made to the Rose Cameron Trust Fund set up with the HSBC Chilliwack. Elkes: Fred Elkes, passed away on August 14th, 2002 in Edmonton. He was born in Drumheller September 23, 1927. After graduation from Drumheller High School, he joined The Royal Canadian Air Force, where he served for 35 years in Europe, Middle East and Florida, before retiring to Edmonton. Fred will be sadly missing by his wife Vera, daughters Linda (Ray) Hart of Ponoka, Cheryl (Colen) McGarrigle and son Scott (Suzanne) of Westlock. Grandchildren Miranda, Evan, Ryan, Sean, Alan and Cory. He is also survived by his sisters Vera Dick an d Edna Anderson and his brother Jack (Pat) Elkes. Fred will be cremated and internment of ashes in Drumheller Cemetery will be at a later date. 34p

Keith: Gwen Keith, passed away at Eagle Park Lodge in Qualicum Beach, B.C., August 11, 2002. Born in Yorkshire, England, Gwen lived in the Drumheller Valley, before spending the war years in Scotland, moving back to Midland in 1948. In 1962 moved to Vancouver Island, spending many years in Victoria. Predeceased by Husband Roy, aunt Ethel, Edmonton, sister Katherine (Kitty) Johnston, Grandson Brenden Neill. Survived by daughters Margaret Young in Vancouver, Patricia Neill (Don) in Gold River and son Grant in Victoria, seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. Marquardt: George Samuel Marquardt born December 30, 1918 - August 12, 2002. Beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away suddenly on August 12, 2002 at the age of 83. He was born in Bassano, Ab. to parents Emma and Henry Marquardt. He was the second youngest of 7 children who have predeceased him. He is survived by his wife Isabel. They celebrated their 50th anniversary on Oct. 20, 2001. Two sons Ken (Sheila) of Nacmine, Dennis (Pam) of Moose Jaw, Sk and Leona (Bob) Komarnisky of Nacmine. Six grandchildren Johnathan, Michelle, Christopher, Patricia, Richard and Grant. Memorial Service was held on Friday, August 16, 2002 at the Knox United Church in Drumheller, AB. Mitchell: Thomas William Joseph (Tom) 1910 - 2002 Thomas William Joseph Mitchell (Du Bois), beloved husband of Mildred of Calgary passed away at the Bethany Care Centre on Monday, August 12, 2002 at the age of 92 years. Tom was born in Lethbridge on May 17, 1910. He spent his younger years in the Drumheller Valley, working on farms and at the coal mines. Later moving to Calgary, Tom worked in various care taking positions, finally as houseman at the University of Calgary until he retired. Besides his loving wife Mildred, Tom is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Lloyd Sandau; a son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Bonnie Mitchell; seven grandchildren, Melanie, Cathy, Darin, Tara, Matthew, Michael, and Jennifer; and eight great-grandchildren. Tom will also be mourned by Millie's children, Sharon Seversen, Ilene Murphy, Adelle (Clayton) Richards, and Bill (Teren) Clarke; and grandchildren. Tom is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends. Tom will be remembered for his calm, gentle nature and spirited good humour. He was predeceased by his first wife Betty, grandson Anthony Mitchell, granddaughter Lori Sandau, and brothers, Bob and Leonard. Suttie: James Fulton Suttie, 54, of Drumheller, passed away at the Drumheller Regional Hospital on Sunday, August 11, 2002. James is survived by his son J.R. and his wife Dianna of Calgary and their two sons Tanner and Tyson. James is also survived by his two sisters Lorna and Lorraine. James was born in Scotland and moved to Calgary when he was five. James has lived in Drumheller since 1987. At the families request no services will be held.
