Bantle: John Anton Bantle. It is with great sadness we tell of the passing of our precious Dad and Papa, Tony Bantle, on April 11, 2002 at the age of 81 years. Dad was born August 6, 1920 and lived the better part of his years in the Wakaw and Prince Albert, Saskatchewan area. Dad recalls times being tough as he grew up, but always remembered the love and support his family provided. Dad enlisted in the Canadian Army in March of 1942 and returned home in January of 1946. It was during this time that Dad met and married his soul mate and lifelong companion, Mary McCann. Upon his return to civil life, Dad took on employment as a bus driver and later became employed at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary. In 1967, Dad relocated the family to Drumheller, Alberta where he continued work with Corrections Canada as a Vocational Automotive Instructor until his retirement in 1978. Dad and Mom loved to socialize with their many friends and were active in many community organizations and various functions. Dad was particularly fond of fishing, camping and hunting, and later on discovered a passion and proficiency for woodworking and general hobby-crafts. His grandchildren were always delighted when Papa prepared that something special for them, while his daughters kept him busy with their wish lists as well. Dad openly welcomed his two sons-in-law into the Bantle family and always looked forward to a coffee break with Jack, which almost always involved a most colourful conversation and round of hearty laughter. From his daughter's perspective, Dad was the know-all, see-all, do-all and we would readily seek out his advice, knowledge, and abilities. Our Dad and Papa always put his family first, and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Anton was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary, his son Phil, his parents John and Elizabeth Bantle, and his siblings Al, Ray, Arnold and Betty. He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter Debbie and husband Jack Anderson, daughter Sharon and husband Keith Jacques, grandchildren Connie and husband Kevin, Denise, Chris, Brent, Jason, Justine, along with one great granddaughter. He will also be sadly missed by his remaining siblings, Tina, Vic and Angie, his in-laws in Ontario, and his many other family and friends. Funeral Services were held on Monday, April 15 at St. Anthony's Church with Father Patrick Cramer, celebrant. Internment followed at the Drumheller Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Anton's memory to the Poppy Fund (c/o The Drumheller Legion Branch #22, Box 195, Drumheller, AB, T0J 0Y0).
